I'm just wondering if the chassis rigidity improvement does anything either? The one that costs about 20 in the same place where you get weight reductions and bonnets. Didn't really feel any change in the mazda rx8. But I only did couple of laps and didn't do a proper comparison either..

... Suggest you run a few more laps!

Hi again guys,
Another quick update.
The FGT has now run 9,000 miles since its original engine re-build. After carrying out the latest oil change it's showing 890BHP... Meaning a loss of 45BHP over a distance of 9,000 miles.
Bob has driven almost all of them though and seems reluctant to share any information on the diminution in the cars handling...

... Maybe if I left him out of my next few race line-ups he might start talking!

Chassis restore on a vehicle that needs it does make the car more predictable/stable.
Chassis rigidity prolongs chassis life.
Engine rebuild does restore lost hp, and allows the engine to last longer.

If people cannot feel it, see it, or understand when to do it then so be it.
No need to dumb down a "racing car" game for folks that cannot figure stuff out.

I know little about aviation... if I were to by an aviation game and could not understand it all I would educate myself, or simply accept that I do not have the knowledge base to accel at the game.
I sure as heck would not cry that the game should be made easier.

If you want an easy racing game there are other options out there, quit trying to dumb down GT5.

Have a Merry Christmas.

Hi Mr Clean,

Most of my knowledge lies in areas outside the world of GT5 also... Although I can't fly!
Pretty sure that I can speak for everyone who's contributed to this thread though when I say that none of us are intending, or trying to 'dumb down' GT5.
The plain fact is that some people have more time to spend on the game than others. Some people have a better understanding of certain aspects of the game than others too!

I started this thread with the intention of trying to help a few people. Many others have done the same! Credits are hard to come by in GT5 so wasting them on upgrades that aren't necessary or implementing them at the wrong time is a pain in the ???!

If you're not on these forums to either contribute or look for assistance, what are you doing here?

Merry Xmas all the same!

One thing I havent seen ANYBODY answer yet, is do you spoil a car permanently by driving it first, and then adding the body rigidity upgrade BEFORE doing a resotre body ridgidity overhaul.

Sorry I forgot to mention this previously, the horsepower on the FGT started to drop permanently after 15,000 miles.

ALso what do you mean permanently, You mean even with a engine overhaul, it still doesn't go to max HP?

Hi Snake,

As far as I can tell, a car will not be spoilt by not adding a body rigidity upgrade before a body rigidity overhaul.
Most opinions as well as my own conclude that the 20,000 upgade merely prolongs the life of said cars chassis integrity which may delay (on some cars) a 500,000 credit overhaul!
You can easily waste credits by spending on suspension and other upgrades before performing an 'RM' modification though. If you wish to 'RM' a specific car do it first, before any other mod'!

In 1+ hours I will buy a second engine re-build on the FGT. After the first its BHP was 935, with oil changes and 11,000 miles it's now down to 890BHP. If the second re-build returns the BHP to 935 there should be no need to worry!

Merry Xmas:)

Yes you assumed correct, at that point, even performing an engine overhaul the maximum HP decreased.

I posted a slightly more detailed report here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=141569&highlight=permanent&page=2

I am here to contribute when I can.
Most times I'm here looking for assistance.
If you really want my opinion, it is that the test is a poor one given the track choice.
The amount of people in this thread stating they will never do a chassis or engine rebuild shows me that people are misunderstanding the test/results and still not grasping the fact that the rebuilds do have benefits.

I do not believe it's ok to send folks away with the impression that these options are worthless. I suppose if folks are running vehicles in races that outclass the competition (FGT at the American), then it is possible they will never drive the car hard enough to ever actually feel the deterioration of a vehicle, hence never seeing/feeling the advantages having performed the rebuilds.

I am not here to agree with every thread I come across, and have posted in this one in an attempt to let folks know that these rebuild features do work, and do provide a better performing vehicle.

I honestly applaud you for doing the test and posting your findings, I was most interested to open the thread and read.

As for time to spend on the game... I have a career, I'm 42, married, own a home and have other hobbies/sports/pets to take up my (along with my wife's) time and have little time for the game. I am as frustrated about the cost of the rebuilds as anyone. If you are running a 300hp(35/60down force) car in 500hp(45/70downforce) events, which require everything with the car to be perfect to drive it at the limits, you will see/feel the deterioration of the vehicle and will benefit once rebuilds have been applied.

I realize the internet is a hard place to convey tone, but I assure you I am not trying to be combative or smarty pants.
I'm sure we would have much more fun discussing this face to face.

Mike

:nervous:

I still don't want to beleive it unitl i see it for myself, Im hoping you messed up. veyron 1256hp, until you go below that figure after a overhaul I wont 👍

Thats terrible. So not only do we have to keep doing maintance 1which cost1 mil for most good cars, but now they also have a limited life span and we need to keep buying new ones if we want them to perform to full potential! MADNESS!

Hi Mike,

Merry Xmas!

Is hard to convey tone in text agreed, sorry if I came across as rude.
I'm living in France so a beer is probably out of the question!
You have some great points though and clearly enjoy your GT5 time... My time, while GT5ing is rarely interrupted by anything other than my dog, who despite having nearly a 5 acres of garden to roam and 600 rabbits to chase, sometimes needs a belly rub...
To me this thread was not only about finding out if these upgrades were necessary but when!
You are totally correct but it's not always easy to tell when... especially if Bobs on a charge!
My updates, (along with those from others) concur with you.
I can say, at least as far as the engine work goes that I'd recommend an overhaul every 10,000 miles. In a high powered car there will be a big difference in BHP!... My FGT is down by 45 BHP so far.
Early on in the game though these things are just hard to work out... Why we have these forums I guess!

Merry Xmas once again.
Sincerely,

ben

Forgot to test this myself after my earlier post. Promise to dish out the 500k first thing tomo' morning (before I unwrap my new socks and crappy jumper) for the 2nd engine re-build.
Will post the new BHP details then!
merry Xmas all:cheers:

I was racing online with my M3 CSL today, and of course i manage to enter a server with full of crash-kids and my car got really wrecked. So i quit the server and enter another one and i noticed that the car felt weird, lost grip on weird places on the track and i could not keep up with the others. I then repaired the chassis and WOW! like new! :)

So drive carefully and chose the servers wisely if you got an expensive car.

I noticed my Formula GT was shaking like ALOT @ high speed like 210+ MPH at the Monza straightaway.

and my FGT max HP is 921, it won't go higher.

DOes this mean I need an Engine rebuild / Chassis?

Hi,
What's your mileage?

Right,
Just over 10,000 miles since first re-build and even with oil change BHP on my FGT has dropped from 935 to 886. After second enging re-build the BHP is up to...
... 932!
I am sure that with a few more 'running in' miles this will rise again to 935. I'll come back to this.
As mentioned before, Bob has done almost all the driving for this so I can't comment on the chassis re-build work. I would imagine though that if the engine work can bring an extra 46BHP, then the chassis work would almost certainly bring benefits too!

That's interesting, by all accounts this shouldn't be the case. Wonder if only some cars are programmed with cumulative damage?

Have you found this to happen with any of your other cars?
Cheers

I'm kicking myself for spending at least 4 million on engine and chassis repairs. I've since found out engines lose ~2% of their power every 10,000 miles. I'd bet chassis repairs are on the same lazy PD formula...seeing how it took them almost 6 years to copy and paste half this game from GT4.

If you want to see for yourself, go buy a cheap (under 10K as engine/chassis repairs are a function of the price/value of the car) used car with a lot of miles. Change the oil, go to your garage and note the horsepower. Now rebuild the engine, note the horsepower. Do not drive the car between the oil change and rebuild, cars gain horsepower after oil changes. Obtain the quotient of the 2 horsepowers, convert to percentage. Then reduce mileage and percentage by an equal amount.

Example: Starlet Glanza V. Purchased car with 36,100 miles.

Changed the oil and noted it had 130 horsepower in the garage. Immediately rebuilt the engine and noted it had 138 horsepower at the same garage screen.

138/130 = 1.06153, or 6.153%. This is the amount of permanent horsepower lost as a percentage in 36,100 miles.

Reducing both by 3 yields: 6.153/3 = 2.051%
36,000/3 = 12,000 miles

This car lost only 2% of its permanent engine power in 12,000 miles.

Note: I only tried this on 1 car. I assumed after all the copy/paste I've seen in this game, PD wouldn't bother to write different formulas for different cars concerning this.

50 BMG could be on the right track, (excuse the pun). I've another 2,500 miles on the FGT since 2nd engine re-build, after oil changes BHP remains at 932. That's a drop of 3BHP from the original maximum over roughly 16,500 miles.

it has about 5,600.

Hi,
At roughly 5,500 I would say that an engine overhaul is not necessary.
My experience was that oil change returned my BHP to maximum until past 10,000 miles!

I have noticed in my 787B-S which has had engine rebuilds and chassis restores every couple of races it's done (@$500cr ea why not)

It has done roughly 20,000km's, around the 15,000km mark overall HP has dropped i.e after eng rebuild max is 924 when run in 927

early on in the cars life it would be 927 and run in to 932...

so It would seem the engines do "wear" over time as too how much i'm not sure yet.....

You would only need to do a Chassis restrengthening after 3 or 4,000 miles, that's when you will notice that the handling of the car is stiff and not as agile as it was when it was new, as for the engine rebuilds only do them when an oil change does not restore the maximum HP of your car and the HP is lower than it should be when it was worn in or new. Trust me on this i have over 100 wins in my Minolta with over 11,000 miles & my Peugeot 908 also needed these fixes after long hours of Endurance races.

My home thingy doesn't look anything like that!
