A Glorious Return to Sport Mode!

Hello all! I just felt like sharing my joy with you fellow GTS racers! There is always room for positive posts, right?

I don't usually have much time to race as I don't have much free time with quite a busy job, wife and a kid. Before today I had done 64 Sport Mode races and at my best I was up to DR B / SR S. But then I fell into a slump that has been ongoing for too long. Hopped into races without enough practice, did silly mistakes and was just not performing as I could. I fell back down to DR C and haven't been close to getting up to B again.

For the past two months I haven't touch Sport Mode. I've been focusing on the local league I'm running here in Iceland and most of my playtime was practicing for those races and just messing around in time trial in various cars. This weekend, however, I have a couple of days all by myself. Wife working, my kid is visiting with relatives .. so I find myself with boatloads of time to race! Now that's a rare occurance, so I decide to split my weekend and do some GTS and iRacing races.

Today I see a combo I like in the Daily Race B: Gr.3 @ Maggiore GP. I head into qualifying and do a couple of laps in the Audi R8, best one being a 1:57.5xx, around 3sec away from the Top 10 leaderboard times, which for me, is a good result. I'm at DR C and SR S.

I get pole position for the first race which is a mixed field 50/50 DR C and DR B drivers. Pretty pumped since I haven't get many poles so far. I do the race and cruise to a safe victory and a fastest lap, plus clean race bonus. A perfect race! I was hyped and decide to do a couple more.

Race #2 I get another pole, and start off strong but mess up a corner resulting in dropping down to 2nd place. Couple of corners later, that guy messes up and I get back to 1st place and keep it for the race for a 2nd straight victory! Also get fastest lap again.

With full steam I head into one more race. Another pole position, although the gap to 2nd was quite small. I keep the lead through the race and get my 3rd straight win and am back to DR B level! These three races bumped my DR from 6749 up to 11685, and my SR is also back at a max of 99.

Did those 3 races in the Audi R8. Quite a fun car to drive, haven't really paid much attention to it before.

So after these races, you're looking at one happy camper!

Here you can see my DR and SR graphs, quite a happy spike there after these races.

When I had the GTS beta I had similar results. Sport Mode seemed great because I was qualifying on pole, & winning all the races. But after a while when I ended up qualifying midpack & was surrounded by other drivers, things went from bad to worse. If only we were on pole for every race, that would be great!

I haven't had much trouble with being midpack, and has often made for fun and tight races, but this slump I went on was pretty much all on me, making stupid mistakes. Couple of races I got the worse end of a wreckless driver, but I have no one to blame but myself. So these races were a very satisfying return to form

Congrats on your victories.

3 seconds off the top ten times as a high C or low to mid B will usually get you a very high qualifying spot.

Still gotta drive it to the finish so well done for hitting the top spot x3.

Besides of that, you gave effort in your qualifying time before you started, and thats how it should be from my point of view.

Fast but too lazy for good qualifying time- drivers are causing often trouble. Someone should start according to his pace

Yeah leading and winning is so exhilarating! But now I’m in B, getting matched up with A and A+ drivers and have no prayer of winning. My participation in Sport Mode has plummeted to near zero. I’ve gotten to 40 wins and that Schumacher trophy seems impossibly out of reach now.

im usually around 2 seconds off top 10 at b/s 16-19k points. i never see pole anymore.. wins are rare.. always paired up with a couple a+ drivers in my races.

Yeah good point. I'm not always wanting to win but at least I'd like to be competitive so when I've been out qualified by 3.5 seconds, it really takes the wind out of my sails.

So many of my races have been lonely affairs. Typical race has me in 3rd, way behind the leaders, way ahead of everybody else.

Yeah I understand, that's not excactly exciting either
