For GTP5,

Have a system that checks the location of the person at any given time they are logged in to GTP. Like say I'm at home(cause I am right now), my zip is 63146, so the system reads it and then I can set it to say "Home" any time it reads that zip. Then I go to school, where the zip is like 63044(or something like that) and then I can put in "School" which the system displays when it reads that zip.

There would be some type of editable list of places and zip codes that we set.

This would make it easy to track someone and know what pc they are on, and if they have access to other stuff.

So say that I'm at home, and I wanna know where Doug is(like I'd want to know that :) ). Lets say that I need him to try something on the game Racer, like my RX-7 that me and GT2_GS made(well Mista-tard did colors). So then I'd know if he had access to Racer or not.

I think that it would be pretty cool.

That's good idea, but there's quite a few technological problems: there is no way to determine your zip code. And what about people outside of the United States?

yea that was my other idea Chris. If it could read through IPs it would give a general location which can then be filled in by the member.

Indeed-diddly. I think you're a bit too late with your suggestions, GTP5 is right around the corner.

Couldn't it be done through IP addresses?
No, very few people have static IP addresses.

Maz-- Problem is, those of us with dial-up connections have constantly-changing IP addresses. ;)

I was thinking this: How about logging in with two different passwords? For example, if I log in as youth_cycler with password #1, then it'll detect me as being at home... if I log in with password #2, then it'll detect me as being at school. That would be kinda cool... :)

OR! We could have a subject heading on the quick reply in which we check our location. Or just a subject heading on the quick reply.

I agree with youth_cyclers idea. But I think with password #1 it should be home and password #2 should be 'other location' or something along those lines. Because you could be at a library or anything.

Having a system locate you by your ip address would open up the possibility of an attack on your computer by a hacker. i don't know about you, but I dont want that sort of information made public to anyone. plus, like youth_cycler said, most people on dial up have ip addresses that change every time they get onto the internet. It is a good idea though, but the technicalities of it would make it difficult at best to accomplish.

This would actually be a rather good idea. If people had one password for their home and one for when their not (like their in a public place), then you could apply limited access when logging in with password #2.

Ex:
Old system: Mod of GTP decides to log on in a library computer, but when he leaves, he forgets to log out before he leaves. Account is still logged in once the person leaves, and somebody else goes onto the computer and could get access to moderator abilities without having to even log in.

New system: Mod of GTP decides to log on in a library computer, only this time using password #2 which only has limited access and cannot change the persons profile or anything, but still may post, thus eliminating the worry about not logging off in a public place (This would be handy for regular members too.) When moderator logs on with password #1 at home, he/she still has all the access he/she needs.

Pretty nifty idea as far as security measures go. ;)

yea I see your point about the IP addy.

The only thing I see wrong with the 2 passwords is forgetting one or what not. Hows about the same idea(limited access) except when you log in you choose either "home" or "other" with the little circle with the dot selector thingy. That would be good.

Also some sort of thing, like integrated into the "online" or offline" thing saying if you are home or other.

OK, now who's up for doing all of this coding? :)

So this is where a hell of an idea transforms into an idea from hell, huh? :)

I would help out, of course, but I'm not really a code junkie. <Grin, grin.>

Codes? No one said anything about codes! :)

Coding like GT3 or what? :)

Like PHP code! :scared:

Pretty Hard Poopy huh? :D

Sorry Jordan, I have no clue as to even where to start, I'm afraid if you let me try GTP would go down in flames. :)

So precautionary measures against the destruction of GTPlanet.net would be banning Ryan.

Muhaha, twisting your words. And loving it!

At least you aren't loving it HARD!!

Ban me, I dare you Chris! I'll ban you, HARD!!

Who started this HARD!! stuff anyhoo?

In fact, I started it. But I hadn't intended for it to become so...

So...

Lame.

You dare me to ban you? I wish. :)

Topher.

Can I call you that, sn00p, or is your name not Christopher?

It's acctually 'Hard!' I think I started the italicized exclamation point.

Only Doug knows my full name.

Or maybe Ryan here as the answer.

You're the founder of the italcized exclamation point, indeed-diddly. Wouldn't it be something, to just register on a new board and to just start throwing around all this underground/insider stuff we've come up with?

Klos his name is Christiaan, not Christopher.

He IS from the Netherlands!

Sure, rub it in. :D

I'm a crossbred Dutch-ass-Belgian-figure. Remember?

"Eurotrash", if you will.

I know, but I was going on the outside chance that his parents were from the Bronx or something and moved to Maastricht.

Krabbe!

I think you posted your name a while back; I bet I could find it.
