A lack of common decency

It helps to send the whatever after you receive your trade. I've saved myself from 2 scammers because of this.

Really, you look smarter and more respectable if you go through with trades. Some of my friends refer me to people if they know I'm looking for a car because i go through with my trades.

I simply go by "If you don't try you'll never know" in fact, the first person to dupe me 5 gold chrome, I gave them back without duping because I'm so trusting that when you need help with something people will have an answer, especially when you've just helped them out. I'm not the type of person that even thinks of backing up game saves and reloading them unless it is simply the normal trick people are using. And it works quite well, because all I've got in return are some cars that I didn't want lol.. actually that's not true the one trader did give me some cars I was looking for so I'm thankful it hasn't all been a wasted cause.

Although, why people ignore some things is beyond me.. like the OP says HE is approached for the trade, and then the trader just sends something different. Well clearly the person is uncommunicative, because otherwise he could ask and/or say "Hey, I lied about having (Insert Object X here), I hope you're not upset, is there anything else I could possibly give you?" no that's too much typing he simply doesn't type anything and sends something that the OP doesn't want or need... well what is the point? Why cant people just be open and tell each other that they're going to screw them.. In fact when I was PM'ing back and forth with the one trader about the shelby ticket mixup, and he PM'd me back saying "I'll take the '65 ticket" or whathaveyou, I was going to PM back to make sure he knew that it was a GT350R, but I stated it so clearly in my first PM I didn't think it needed clarification. I type so that everything is pretty much out there to be read as it's typed, and you couldn't miss that I was offering the shelby, he understood after he reread it so why didn't he initially? I have no idea.. I could ask him but it's in the past anyways. I was thinking about apologizing but I still am confident that there's nothing to apologize about, I got screwed, he misread. He got double screwed because the guy that gave me the ticket I thought had a nicer car had a car that wasn't so nice at all. I still feel bad though because no one got what they wanted except me and the scammer :\ and I have asked the person I incidentally gave a crappy car if he wanted anything else instead, and I don't remember all too well but I'm pretty sure he didn't want anything.

@WeShallNverStop even if you lost all your data, so long as you're a reliable Sony customer and you have a usb stick with all the gt5 you had, with your account information, your data will be retrievable (from the USB). I'm pretty sure Sony doesn't plan on screwing millions of people out of their game saves. Plus, if there hasn't been a patch for it yet, there probably wont be... Also I would suggest backing up your data because the PS3 is just a system, and while there is a quality control, you never know if you get one that is just a defection waiting to happen. After hearing that some peoples PS3 have died and they lost all their cars, that's when I really started just leaving my stick in the PS3.

It helps to send the whatever after you receive your trade.

The problem is that it's a waste of a day when you could have been sending something to someone that cares more and would send something you actually need back. :P

Your thread has opened a can of worms, though, that has been fished with since the invention of graffitti.

Many good post in here, though, that fully demonstrate the fact that there are still people who understand the concept of decent intercourse . . . let alone human-like altruism.

I loved your whole post. It flowed like a well versed poet.
When I started this thread it was just one man ranting, and I am amazed at what I've seen I this thread. Stories of frustration, and stories of human decency, and you are completely right, there a some really decent people here, in fact I still maintain that most here are really decent people.
I want to thank every one for sharing their stories, both good and bad.

Ahh man, bad to hear. I know how you must feel. :indiff:

The internet & the forum is full of scammers, but not as much as loayal guys. Everyone get scammed someday, but don't mutate to one of them because "justice" isn't scamming a other innocent.

I like to give you some useful tips on your way:

  • first create your own trading thread in the marketplace
  • only send out after you have received your item
  • if something went wrong then get over it, it's just 1 day - out of 365 days/year
  • use the GT5 Traders Reputation Thread to post your positive & negative feedback :dopey:👍

With the time you will know who you can trust & you will end up trading a lot with regular traders.

Enjoy your stay here at GTP & your trading business, mate.

This is why I haven't played GT5 for a long, long time.

1) Ultimately, many people are "naturally douches", as Midnight Snacks very truthfully points out.

2) Motor racing requires a very high level of respect and sportsmanship towards your opponents.

3) The video-game avatar is a very popular outlet for said humans' to channel their total douchery.

I don't think any of those things are going to change, so I'd say to be successful, GT online would need to have one of the best multiplayer networks around, with a very refined system to group similar players, banish the douchebags, communicate and network more easily, and so on.. It's not an easy task.

When I take a step back, I just know that if I spend an evening on GT-online, it probably won't deliver a fun experience. I've played and sometimes been addicted to other games like this, and the main warning sign is realising that you spend hours and hours *trying* to have fun, and only fleeting moments having it.

Up until very recently, since I joined here actually, I hadn't done any trading so thought I'd give it a go. So far, I've only had two people stiff me out, and both are from this very forum. So even if you're part of an active community, greed still has the overpowering draw to some, even if it means getting a bad name for it.

I also hadn't bothered with online running until maybe around a month ago, (had the game since April) and the "children" really do spoil the experience. Deliberately manouvering themselves across your path when you try to overtake, and then cry foul play and vote to kick. Or just smash into you for the hell of it, because it gives them something to giggle about with their grade 7 pals the following lunch break.

I'll freely admit, and warn people when I'm hosting, that I'm not the best driver in the world, friendly rubbing will occur and racing or handling incidents cannot be avoided. But I'll also rather have an incident with a barrier, wall or kitty litter run-off than ruin someone else's race.

I seem to be very much in the minority with this last part, as I have been used as moving braking assists and cornering rails more times than I care to mention. For this reason I now only host with a track I've made myself, with the most twisty layout possible, so the kids get bored of trying to catch me in order to crash into me. (They also never get a long enough run-up to do the giggle-worthy damage they desire)
That way I'm only left with like-minded people, who really enjoy a nice, challenging driving experience.

(EDIT: I found a lovely little trick in the community section of GT, you can check your trade buddy's log file to see if, and when, they accepted your gifts. Great for when the sneaky little children tell you they never received your gift!!!)

Your kind words brought a dimple to my cheek. The pun, one, to the other.
Thank you. Hope your online experience is getting better. There are tons of beautiful people out there. Just avoid the mean genes.
Good Luck, and hope to meet you one day on the track.
H.
