Hello GTP, I have a request to ask;
I have a younger sister named Sharne who is currently unemployed, this is mainly due to (I believe) her lacking any inspiration to go out and find a job. It's getting my parents down and her self-esteem has gone rock bottom, it's starting to get concerning. We've tried giving her college prospectus', told her about open days, job vacancies and more but she won't budge, so I think she needs something to make her have a target to aim for.
Now, she's a huge fan of art, but even more of Japan, Japanese culture, Japanese television, Japanese music. She was absolutely devestated when she learned of the earthquake and tsunami earlier this year (So much so she'd watch the NHK broadcast's into the early morning.) She would ideally like to visit and perhaps one day live there. However, in her current state of mind and employment, she's not going to get anywhere.
This is where you guys come in.
My idea is to build a little 'box of inspiration', nothing more than perhaps a shoe-boxed size full of Japan. For this to work however, I need donations from anyone who currently lives or has been there, as I've never been to the country myself.
The donations don't have to be of anything hugely significant, just aslong as they are in essence, Japanese. These could range from a simple bottlecap to a tourism leaflet, maybe a photo or a manga drawing. I know there's some kind and talented people on this forum. If you live in the country, perhaps a little letter about where you live, explaining what your life in the country is like or even a postcard!
Sadly I wouldn't be able to pay for packaging/shipping costs to and within the UK so really consider this before donating if you do decide to. Also consider the size of the item. Like I said earlier, I'm thinking nothing more than the size of a shoebox, otherwise it could just become rather overwhelming. I'm planning on presenting the box to her at her birthday in October, so there's still loads of time to dig around any old stuff you'd be happy to send away.
So, if you think you could help me out, shoot me a PM with 'Box of Inspiration' as the topic header and we'll take it further.
Thanks alot, this is truly the best internet community I've ever been part of.
