Heres the story guys...I ordered a Nikon SB-600 speedlight, yesterday from Sonic Cameras. I got an email today saying that I need to call them to confirm my order. I called and they said that there have been problems using the SB-600 with the D40, and that they were going to upgrade me to a better flash for no charge. I figured it would be an SB-800, but they said that it will be a Digipower 952 Pro model. He told me that it comes with a yellow filter, built in bounce card etc. So I was like cool and now they are shipping it. The problem is, I cant seem to find any info about this flash anywhere. These guys seem to know what they are talking about, and I dont think that they are trying to scam me, but I would like some info on what I am buying. He told me that this is normally a $300+ flash and I will be getting it for a little more than $180 so I dont know what to think. So, does anyone know anything about this flash?

This is a bait-and-switch scam. Cancel the order.

What's going to happen next is that they'll try the same trick again, only the next one will be "only an extra $10", which you'll pay, having been conned into believing you're getting a much greater value.

Check out their score on ResellerRatings: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Sonic_Cameras

For those of you unsure of your eyesight, yes, it does say zero point seven four out of ten.

Seriously, cancel the order.

Damn, I must really start wearing my contacts. Looks just like zero point six nine out of ten to me. :dunce:

I was afraid of this. I called them today and talked to someone after they shipped it. They said that I could return it but I have to pay a 15% restocking fee. We'll see about that after I call them and raise hell, and possibly call the better business bureau on them. BTW, I still havent been able to find ANY info on the flash that they are sending me, regardless of me not keeping it or what. Thanks for the help guys 👍

Heh! Damn them and their dynamic web site!

Have you got a shipping e-mail? My advice would be to cancel the credit card transaction.

I looked at a few of the stores that I have purchased things from on their Best and Worst Stores list and I have to say I'm a bit surprised. The stores in question are eCost.com (2.28) Buy.com (2.24) and Dell.com (1.74). All items ordered were received intact and on time. They were no worse than my order from monoprice.com rated at 9.77. Granted that's nowhere near Sonic's 0.69.

I got the goods today, and the best word I could use to describe it would probably have to be crap. Its brand is digital concepts like the guy said, but it is made by a company called sakar. Their website is www.sakar.com and they sell junk. I may have a case to get a full refund, seeing as how the unit doesnt work, LOL. What a joke.

That flash is supposed to be $360? Wow. I hope you get your money back, Boz.

I trust a call to the BBB is on your schedule in the not to distant future?

Indeed, I dont know if, or what they can or will do about this though, seeing as this sonic cameras is in a different state.

On a lighter note, I also got my hydroturf mats for my jet ski today which is like the complete opposite of this camera transaction. They are one of the most trusted sites that you can order from, and they even give members of pwctoday.com a 15% discount.
