why waste the money
This is something that I have found interesting. My new girlfriend is a race fanatic like my self. Her only exposer has been the local track that races stockcars and has just found the speed channel.I have taken her to the kart races and she thinks that they are cool but if I was not racing she wouldn't bother to go.I have asked her why and she tells me that it is the sound of the tires and the smell of the fuel that she loves. now my question is, do you think that this is why most people in N. america is in love with stockcars?
Let's here what you think.

I don't know if most people are into 'stock' cars because of the sounds/smells of the sport, they certainly don't hurt the experience. I'm guessing your girlfriend is into like USAR Hooters Pro Cup or one of those other minor series, but I'd also wager that she isn't a stranger to the major divisions of stock cars (Nextel, Busch series)

I'd say that at first hand any NASCAR fan will tell you they like the sport because of the close racing and how they can relate to the drivers, yadda yadda...

When you look at the formula they made years ago it's really quite simple: 43 cars in a space ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 miles at an average speed of about 160 mph (a guesstimate) all viewable from one spot. And the drivers, apparently, all irradiate some sort of charisma that fans either love or hate, so they go to/watch the races to either 'boo' or cheer.
Then comes all the 'heritage' talk. Allison, Petty and Earnhart (to name a few) are basically household names in NASCAR-loving homes across America.

Some people like it, others prefer more complex or sophisticated kinds of motorsports.

But with all that said, stick with her, kart racer. ;) Even if she's more into stock cars it's tough enough to find a girl who likes racing altogether.

Well, I enjoy almost any racing....

I'm, as you can see by my lil side thing, from Alabama, which is like one of the big Nascar places it seems. I do enjoy Nascar and I admit to watching it on TV, but I don't stop everything and invite a lot of people over to watch it. Usually just me and my dad does but not like with undivided attention. I like most racing, except for drag and cart/F1. The first former because it doesn't last long enough and the latter because I prefer watching somthing at least close to a normal street car.

Racing is a bit of a strategic and somewhat complicated sport whether you're going in a circle at 150~200 MPH or driving around a road track at like 100 MPH (guess.. may be way off). Loose concentration on either of those and ya might hit a wall or someone else and take not only you and them, but other people out with ya.

To tell the truth though, the most fun I ever had watching a race was down at a local track up at my aunt's house when they run the pure stock races. Street cars goin at it for the prize.... so cool :dopey: ... An old LTD with police pacage won, despite the fact that someone in an older monte carlo (I think) tried to spin him out.. showed him who's boss.. haha :P

But, as SS said, stick with her. Racing girls are hard to find, so don't let the nascar love fool ya. Just, don't stay with a girl just cuz she likes racing, like her too dude. I stayed with a girl just cuz she was like.. kinda hot... and man that was a mistake 👎

Hello there, Kart Racer. Nice to see you again.

As a fan of road racing, it seems your new girlfriend thinks NASCAR is great for the smell or rubber and fuel. I'm going to try to explain why people like NASCAR without being stereotypical or offensive. So, here goes...

It's funny for your new girlfriend to say that rubber and fuel smells are what attracts NASCAR fans. I'd hellishly disagree. I think NASCAR fans like NASCAR for reasons such as these. One of the reasons has to be the fan involvement. Can you imagine how many families are able to visit their favorite race car drivers? If I was married and had children and took them to a NASCAR race (I'd probably teach my children to admire road racing), but I'd love to take them to visit Jeff Gordon and sign autographs. I think fans love NASCAR because it's an all-or-mostly American series. After all, Americans want to be proud of a series to where they can have a driver from his/her own nation, racing against some of the other talent around America. Another reason is because... no offense, but, I don't think your average American race fan knows or cares about road racing unless NASCAR does it. And even then, such a person would rather agree with Jimmy Spencer, saying that "road courses should be converted to bomb-testing sites."

So, those are why I think fans love NASCAR. Okay. How did Johnny boy (me) do?
