The title says it all really.

3... 2... 1... START doesn't really cut it any more. Where's the realism in that.

I'd like a proper race start lighting system where you are held on the line for a random amount of time waiting for the lights to go out.

Since there aren't many grid starts in career/arcade modes (and the AI would know when the lights were going out) this would only really work for online races.
However it'd be great trying to anticipate the lights and get the jump on fellow racers. And not everyone would get it right every time.

I agree completely with this. It would be good to be watching the lights and not set off until they go out.

It might reduce accidents because the people at the back would have to wait for the field to start as they might not have a good view of the lights from the back of the grid.

It definitely would add greatly to the realism and I am sure would be very easy for PD to implement.

Obviously if we had a drag race track we could also have a proper "christmas tree" light starter.

I hadn't thought about accident reductions, but you're right it probably would.

A lighting gantry on every track would be great. But even if it was just lights appearing on the HUD it would be an improvement.

I've found a couple of race starting examples from other some other games (Yes other games are available)

This is from Grid - The starting lights are on gantries repeated along the starting grid. This would be ideal.

This one is from NFS Shift - The starting lights are on the HUD. Not quite so realistic but it's better than what we have now.

They can do it, why can't Gran Turismo?

This is pretty much exactly what GTR2 and GT Legends do for their sitting starts. Even the rolling starts are hard to judge when you're halfway down the field. I've always liked the idea, adds a great sense of realism. Heck, GTR2's rolling starts do the entire lap for a rolling start which you can skip if you like and it places you nearby the last turn heading onto the main straight waiting for the green.

It seems that with the V1.07 update there is at least a some form of online grid start lights...

- When [Grid Start with False Start Check] is selected in [Race Settings], signal lights will be displayed as start indicators.

A great new feature, but it would still be nice to have some proper working track gantries though.
