Hey guys!

Just a quick question: what cars' handbrakes do you use to make your own DIY handbrakes? I'm asking this because the only ones I can find pull on a brake cable rather than an internal switch described by many tutorials.

Thanks in advance!

I used a Logitech Attack 3 joystick.

Took it apart and made a box so that it can only go in one axis.

Long WRC style alloy bar comes up, and is held back with a spring.

It allows me to modulate it, but it only works for PC.

i think any handbrake will do. You just need to mechanically rig it with a switch, and depend on your arrangement, the switch could be normally open or normally closed circuit.

Trust me on this one. Get a Thrustmaster TH8 shifter, a 75 pound spring, a matching piece of pipe to slide over the shifter stick, and a Sparco E brake handle. Check out my threads for pics of it. Feel glorious and looks awesome and works perfectly. No need for do it yourself at all.

I grabbed the handbrake from a car at a local wrecker, the switch was still attached. The switch is for the dash light that tells you the hand brake is on, most cars should have that switch, if it's not on the handbrake try a different car.

A spring was added for resistance and it was wired to a separate 3rd party ps3 controller so it could be used in GT5... but not on the PC. There are instructions floating around on how to hook it up to the G27/other wheels though.

We offer a hydraulic handbrake from time to time. It's based off the method develop by our friend Emery Emond, an avid sim racer and former SCCA race car driver:

It's for a PC, however.
