Egg's box? £3.60.
Do I need a phone line for this? I have been pondering this for a while, as I intend to get it for Sky Sports F1 HD..

I believe I don't need it for a single box since it doesn't really matter where it is since the bill is paid but I need it for multiroom so they know I'm not giving the box to a friend..

So is there anyway I could work around this as I would quite like multiroom?

Officially, having the phone line connected at all times is part of the terms of your contract.

I forgot to mention I don't have one.. Which is my main problem..

I suppose the best way to figure this out is too ring them up..

Sky is normally installed by a non-Sky employee. When they do the instalation they obviously have to contractually fulfill a set of requirements set by Sky. One of these will be to have your Sky box connected to a phone line. As far as i know, you only technically require the phone connection to order 'on demand' films etc. I know when my mum had Sky installed the guy installing it said he had to connect the box to a phone line - even knowing full well that as soon as he left they'd just unplug the line for good.

As far as I know from previous experience reading about it on the Internet, I don't need a phone line unless I want multiroom..

But my nanny lives next door so could I stretch a line down from there for it? Or hook it up through wifi as the IP address would match?

The phone connection only allows you access to interactive services like Box Office and any of their weird game things. You don't need one for it to function normally. But it is a contractual requirement.

I'm not 100% sure how cable boxes work, but I'm guessing they just test to see if their is a dialtone at a hardware level. In which case it may work with a phone line simulator.

You could go with Virgin. You won't get F1 in HD but you don't need a phone line installed to get their services. That's partly why I went with them.

Getting it in HD isn't my main need as I don't have a HD telly..

And I don't think I can get Virgin in Ireland..
