Im currently driving a '89 Nissan Skyline GT-R
i have a few different drift settings i use
but im currious
is there a way i can drift with the aids on, and have it as good as without?
im pretty new at drifting aswell, but most of the settings im looking at never say whether to have the driver's aids on or off
any suggestions?

Basically anyone that is good at drifting will tell you that the driving aids are a no no. The aids function is to keep you from spinning out and your tires from spinning, your trying to drift so you dont want that. You can drift with the traction aid on low with a high horsepower car but its lame and you really dont have as much control over the car while in drift. So basically if you want to be good at drifting and you want your drifts to look good put them both a zero and start learning. And unless the settings specify to set them at X setting then the settings dont use them. Ive only seen people use the aids in GT4 for drifting.

Breakpoint is correct. The ASM and TCS are designed to control ther car and stop loss of traction, and sideways movement.

To utilize these while attempting to drift, is similar to swimming with concrete blocks in each hand.

Really its common sense to me, but i guess it wouldnt be to everyone so i try to answer people who are being genuine and really need to know something. But the search button is always a good friend to the forums:tup:

I guess since we vets grew up driving in gT1, where there were no driving aids, and in GT2 where the driving aids cost 50,000 credits each yet barely make a dent in handling, we're accostomed to not using them. However, in real-life driving again and again in tests, it's been proven that no aids is the way to go

...UNLESS the road is wet or insane amounts of power are being used. 💡 Then, light use of aids can be helpful.

one final question
im trying to drive my nissan silvia s15
its got like 381 hp
is that to much for a rlly big beginner?
i tried using a RX-7 RZ
and it had around 300 hp and i liked it
but should i mix and match tires?
or stick to sims?

Some people here will say mixing & matching is bad. I say it depends on the car you're driving. If mix & matches seem to help you, go with these. Experiment.

Personally i never use sim tires for drifting or racing. I think you should go with normals or sports to begin with, and turn off those driver aids. YOu'll be able to drift with the power you're using, but you'll also be able to control your drift. Come back to the sims when you start getting confident.

I agree with the not using sims when you are trying to learn how to agree 100%. If you start off with sims you are going to be getting very frustrated trying to learn. You need to learn about how weight transfer plays in and so on before you jump on the sims. But as far as the mixing goes i believe that it just makes the car seem very unbalanced. Unless your drifting something like an AWD and you want some extreme angles, then you could run somehthing like hard slicks in the front and normals in the rear, or speed drifting you might want to mix. But as far as exhibition type drifting it will just give you bad habits IMO. You will find for that type of drifting that using the same all around on a RWD at least will benefit you more. But these are all my opinions and not set in stone so DO experiment and see whats best for you, but most won't mix em up though.

ok now i got the info to start driftin

Get to it! Im glad to see new people joining in GT3. This section of the planet has died off allot since GT4 was released. Im just not into the new physics engine on it for drifting, grip racing is ok but i still dont like the engine. Maybe in 5 they will modify the physics again and maybe it will work for me then. If you have anymore questions just ask man:tup:
Oh and when you think your doing good post a video and let us see you in action!

A tad off topic;

I've heard GT4 drifting is impossible so far, but yesterday i was in a Chrysler Crossfire doing the FR challenge. was using N3 road tires for the Family Cup races. The car kept understeering so i switched the rear tires to N2 "comforts". Well, my car stopped understeering but was MAD OVERSTEERING!

Next thing i knew, i was getting some scrumptious drifts in! I lost the race, but i did easily get sideways over and over 👍

PB, you may want to take a read of the GT4 drifting forum, as it is a lively and thriving section of the game.

I know...i don't visit GT4 much...it's a bit overwhelming compared to these slower forums 👍

..all i know of GT4 drifting is what people say here (in gT3) which most find it more difficult if not impossible to drift in 4. I"m just going by what i've heard my friend...

Question....not quistion. :)

I'm not sure if the R34 is immediately available in GT3 arcade or not. I'm sure it is eventually, i'm not an expert. But you can always buy an R34 in sim mode and take it to arcade, too, ya know. 👍

Yeah no problem, if nobody helped anyone out what kind of forum would this be? You actually have 2 R34's to choose from in arcade mode. If you do try to drift one pick the drift settings. But, i don't advise drifting with one for the simple reason that it's a stock car and you can't choose the tire type or change any settings on it because it didn't come from your garage. The main thing is that the tires are just to grippy to do any really good drifting in it. If you have it in your garage and use it you can change all of the settings to make it handle better for drifting. For settings just use the search bar because they are everywhere. Also if you are low on the cash front and thats why you don't own one, pick up a gameshark and just cheat that cash in:sly:

👍 ok thats cool so if i want i can just get some cheats have some cash buy a nice car change settings en tyres to sim then im ready to go??

and what about if i turn the driver aids of in arcade mode would that do anything??

Well as far as the cheats with a gameshark, yes:) Its pretty much unlimited cash with it. Also there are cheats that will multiply the horsepower of cars in your garage, this is helpfull for me since all of my drift cars are usually 1,000hp plus (and i use sims on a good 96% of all my drift cars). But in arcade mode if you are using a car that is not from your garage you cant adjust anything on it, sucks i know. But get that cash and use one from your garage and you can adjust anything, like everyone will say just turn off the aids to drift. Pointless with them.

Don't forget, if you want to turn the driving aids off for garaged cars you have to turn them off in the cars settings menu, not in the games options menu. That just turns off the driving aids for the arcade modes standard selections.

omg .......

there arent any cheats for the ps2 that sux...

Nope not unless you have a gameshark. GT games arent like other types of games to where there are silly cheats put in by the programmers, its a true sim racergame.
