I was reading up on the official Formula 1 pace car on MBSpy, and something caught my eye on the top of the lights. Notice the little black wing-shaped thing? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that unit contain front and rear cameras on the F1 cars? Does that mean viewers of Ecclestone's F1 Digital TV channel can even view shots from the safety car!?

i assume they can... it's a shame North America doesn't get Digital F1... :(

well, we did get it for the local diffusion of the Canadian GP, but that's all we saw of it

Free to Air F1 coverage has shown that shot before.

Good luck finding anyone with F1 Digital - there's been a very low take-up of it.

Great sequence between Marting Brundle (ITV Commentator) and Bernie Ecclestone on the grip just before the Spanish GP.
Martin: "We haven't seen you much lately, Bernie."
Bernie: "I've been working for Sky television. You know, the people where you can see all the different things that you can't see on ITV."
Martin: "Oh I know - is that the show where you can invite a few mates and double the audience all by yourself?"
Bernie: "Don't be naughty."

That's from the Martin Brundle Quotes Page - well worth a look - http://members.tripod.com/~vidcad/martin_b.htm

I can get it in :uk: but at £14 per race weekend, I just watch it free on another channel.....

It would be more popular if there's was a smaller charge :2cents:, all my mates agree that it sounds good but don't want to pay for it...

To answer Jordan's question, yes, that is a camera attachment, and there have been shots from it on the free-to-air coverage before.

To alexy2k, I'm really swithering on the subject. You don't just get qualifying and the race for your £12, but you also get all the practice sessions too. And over the course of a season, it works out at being roughly the cost of going to a race.

We've got some friends who have Sky, and they're going to sign up for the package one weekend to evaluate it. I'll let you know how I get on after it.

Thanks, I hadn't seen those shots before on Speed TV. I think £12 is around $17 U.S. dollars, and I do believe I would purchase it if I knew I would be able to watch the entire race, and if it was one of my favorite venues. I love the on-car and curb cam shots from F1 Digital on F1OnBoard, and I think being able to switch between them on my own terms during a race would be extremely cool!

Yeah, it would be, but if the race was really exciting (which does happen sometimes! :p) then I'd always be afraid of missing the action. As one commentator who was asked to review the service said of the Australian GP coverage "Trouble was, when Ralf was molesting Rubens, I was round the back of the Jordan garage, having a smoke with the mechanics"

That's why I want to 'audition' the service. We're with a TV/phone/internet access provider that doesn't carry F1 digital, so it would be a major upheaval to change to receive the service, which is why I want to know that I will be getting the service I require.

Of course, showing the practice sessions could lead to a lot of "working from home" Fridays!!!

Haha, yes I see what you mean - I hadn't even thought about that!

A lot of ppl i know only have NTsmelL for highspeed net access and those who want genuine quality TV have SkyD also.
Personally, i live out in the sticks in Ireland and have SkyD plus all the magor European sat stations too.
There is no big deal getting two systems installed, unless you have biatchy "anti-sat dish" kinda neighbours.

As for working fridays..just buy a capture card and set it to record the practice at a set time and bingo you have it.

...oh and you guys want to see why Digital F1 is worth the cash?
Here is a clip i captured during the Monaco GP and i think you will agree that F1+ just gets you that bit closer to the action.

clip click here

OMG, that clip is awesome!

So, do you leave the channel on "Super", or do you swtich around while watching the races?

When i only had a one channel setup i only used Super. Super provides the best coverage of all the action and has an excellent balance between onboard/tracka/trackb etc etc..so you miss nothing.

Now that i have a 2 TV setup i use both Super and TrackB and this showed it excellence duing the GP of Malayasia when i could watch the leaders and Schumachers excellent drive from the back of the field.

Watching it on 2 TVs?!!

And people say I'm obsessed!

You should definitely run in the 2003 giles-guthrie.com Fantasy Formula One competition! :)

Wow nice pics of views..... What are the F1 Digital commentators like? Because audio race info make a big difference for my viewing.... :gcar:
