I said No to using the name as well.... I forget who said it, but if X and Y have already picked the name it would be wrong. Plus if Z has the kid before X and Y, they might feel they need to change it.
And do you really want to tell your kid when they ask how you picked their name.... "Oh we could be bothered and our friends were naming their kid this, eh.. sounded goo to us." Yeah way to give a kid a sense of self 👍
Plus there are sooo many great names out there you surely could find a name even better than what X and Y are using.

i wouldn't take it, they were first and so it's "their" name.....

By that line of reasoning I shouldn't have been given my name because someone had it "first" a few thousand years ago.

And some people seem to be forgetting that the thread is assuming that that name is the best one you can come up with. So assume you can't think of a better name.

...which is exactly why only my wife and I know what name the baby's going to be named. She doesn't want to give any ideas to anyone she sees on a regular basis, or is close to.

It's also easier to change the name of a pet than it is for a child, in the eyes of the state.

If they were like super close friends, I wouldn't give the same fist and middle name. That's stupid.

I doubt someone would do that to me as well. Plus... who is going to name their kid Ecgtheow?

...which is as it sould be... right? :odd:
Right, of course, yes.

But while pet names are best bestowed a few days after it's born or adopted, baby names aren't the case...the hospital tends to want a name as soon as possible for it's paperwork, and the birth certificate, as they want to get you out of their care in as short a period of time as safely possible.

If I had decided on that name before my friends had told me they were going to use it and it was the best name ever and my child was born first then I'd probably still go with it. If it was one I had never thought of before then no I wouldnt use it. I had picked my daaghters name out almost from the day I knew I was pregnant and there is no way I would have ever changed it. Jacks wasnt so easy, I had a few names that I liked but other relos or friends had used it already (he would have been Emilie if he was a girl) but once I had decided on his name it wasnt going to be changing.
I've known people to keep the names they pick a secret til the birth of their child so that no one else can steal it.

By the by, I got the idea for this from Kath And Kim.

[australian accent]I like Eppoknee'Rae [/australian accent]

Funny stuff that got me thinking.
Best show. Have they shown all 3 series over your way yet?

My friends name is *Manly* Max Commando. *Manly*

Why cant I be that name?!!1

I don’t care what anyone says. I’m naming my first kid Isosceles.

Isosceles Haswell.

Oh yes.

No. I have the same name as my father, my uncle and my cousin. When we're in the same room together it gets confusing. Of course, half my family calls me Fred and the other half calls me Jimma, so it gets less confusing.

Plaxico is an underrated name, but I don't think I'd have the balls to give it to my kid. No one would beat up a kid named Plaxico.

Or Zoltar.
