A quick question about the save backup feature.

Ok so, my blu-ray drive died on my PS3 a few weeks ago, I have been waiting for this update, how do I get it to update if I can't even spin the game to re install it (the tech told me to do that), and since the blu-ray drive is done, do I order a new blu-ray drive and put it in and hope that's all that's the matter with it? and that its not the logic board? or.. basically what I'm trying to get at here is, is there any way to get the update on there so I can pull the game save off and back it up? Thanks in advance.
 
No way - surely they haven't allowed this?

Anyone else? if there's any way to do that, let me know, that way anyone else with the same problem can use this as a reference tool.
 
The only thing you could do is take the hard drive out and back it up to your computer, then when you get a new PS3 just copy the data back over!
to do this you need a Hard drive caddy.
