Hia.

Been playing Eiger Nord for about an hour now with the g25 and Bmw M3.
The quoted 1:13 time for gold is to me a huge mystery. When I follow the suggested line, brake where I`m supposed to and never run into any walls or anything I`m still looking at a high 1:19 lap.

Basically, Im 6 seconds slower without noticing ANY serious errors in my driving. Am I missing something here? How the hell can I gain 6ish seconds when Im already following the racingline? Using active steering set to medium to reign in some oversteer, but thats the only nannysystem currently in use. Not using the clutch / manual, but I fail miserably to see how that could gain me 6 seconds.

Is it something about being able to tune the car(s) when Ive done all races, gold or not? Then come back with a beefed up M3 and do this?

No, you can't tune the car for that kind of race. I suppose you're driving with pro physics. On that setting, it probably is the hardest challenge in the game, borderline doable at all. On standard physics, it is manageable with some practice. Check out the videos on youtube for help. Hang on...

EDIT:

Practice and time dude, once you learn how to carry momentum and get on the power later you will discover that it isn't too tough ;-) Just taking the correct lines is not enough.

as said here above^^...more practice! and start using manual dude,it will gain you at least 1 or 2 seconds driving the same as you do now!!....and the racingline showed ingame is a line set for all cars in the game, and as you probably know, each and every car has its own ideal racingline wich differents from others(front wheel drive/4wd/rwd/etc etc)so the racingline shown ingame doesnt have to be the perfect one for the bmwm3!!!!
trust me it is NOT the ideal line for the bmwm3 on eiger!!
try to concentrate on the slow hairpins, and especialy the exits of those slow corners.......
and for god sake, turn off steering assist!!
hang in there dude,good luck
spyrrari.

This is the only gold that I have left to do, but I am taking a break from it for now...no rush. I am glad that I am not alone in questioning the recommended line (I have turned it off).

While it is frustrating I like tough golds, because you feel so much better when you get there. I have silver but shaving tenths is hard, hence the break.

Sweet!
What this tells me is:
1. Heeltoeing and whatnots do increase speed greatly and
2. The racingline when I start to look at it is totally rubbish. It follows turns for way too long, not allowing you to slip out and gather momentum etc. I really should have thought about this, but I just assumed it was the "perfect" line no matter what drivetrain / car.

Ill go play some more with it. If I can get my time under 1:19 Ill be happy.
Thanks for great answers, guys!

1.yes
2.yes

and?improved your time??

This is going to sound mad, but does the handbrake help at all in Eiger? I'm still stuck with Silver for both the BMW & Evo IX challenges and have started playing with the handbrake on the hairpins. Am I wasting my time trying to get around those tight bends with it?

Very fast driving, wp to whoever the driver of that is
👍

I've tried this one for 2 sessions of 10 minutes, best I could get with the six-axis, all assists turned off and professional mode is a 1'19... I just can't keep the car from power sliding, especially in the hairpin corners.

i never turn the race line on, I did it on my second sessions and it sucked, went back to driving my own line and power sliding most corners, sigh...

Very challenging gold time, but there are a couple of tricks to this test.

Use normal physics - not saying it's impossible on pro, but I suspect it might be.

No sliding at all. Ever. Anywhere. Period... you've got to maximise traction at all times front and rear.

Stay in 2nd for the uphill hairpins... do not try and drift them, you need to be concentraing on getting good drive out of them.

Brake a little earlier than you think to try to get you corner entry speeds to a point where you're not understeering in to the corners, then coast round the bends with no gas.

Work on your corner exits so you can apply the throttle and get full drive out of the corners with no sliding... you'lll need to have little or no steering lock applied to do this, hence the no sliding comments. It's worth waiting that spilt second longer to get on the gas if it means you don't get any understeer.

I actually found the driving line to be pretty good other than the 2 double apex bends (the one before the start/finish line and the one at the bottom of the hill)... for those 2 I used a tight entry, let the nose drift wide half way through, before letting the nose settle back to the 2nd apex, and getting full drive down the following straight.

If possible, you need to catch a draft off a faster car up the hill out of the final uphill hairpin.

1:12.7xx using Sixaxis, no aids other than ABS.

Good luck.

My last 2 golds are missing because of this track. I hate Eiger so much because of the demo. Every lap is within a fraction of a second apart and a fraction of a second from the Silver time. Making up those last 2 seconds for the Gold is making me hate this track even more.

I think I am going to turn off the driving line because I too noticed that it seemed sorta "off". I see the driver in the video is braking a little later than the driving line shows in some of the sections and he is also driving a good bit outside of the line which is resulting in a considerable gain in time. I also noticed that the driver never dropped to gear 1 which reduced the wheelspin that gear 1 would have created. The trick, I figure, will be keeping the revs up.

The video is great. The car looks a lot faster when watching the video. However, when actually driving, it feels really slow, especially in the slow corners.

I can't wait to get this behind me.

hi, thanks for comments about the video. was only done in standard mode though, manual and all assists off. will try on pro mode once i get a wheel and can pull myself away from gta4 :).

i did another video of the same replay but with driving line turned on, so u can see what line i take compared to suggested. Not perfect by any means, but worked for me.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9yAJxogeuGU&NR=1

How i improved my time:
  • corner after tunnel - brake hard in straight line, drop to 2nd gear and let the car slide round the corner enabling you to get fast exit.
  • go slow and close to hairpins try to get on accelerator as early as possible for exit.
  • final corner brake where the right part of the track sticks out the most and go wide of suggested line.

from the video try to match speed through the corners and look at where i am using throttle/ brake (red and white bars). easier said than done as i know the quality is poor, but hopefully will help u bit.

all other videos can be found here http://uk.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=gt5pp&p=r

1. Use standard physics, someone on here claims to have done it on pro, but then again some people lie about stuff, so....
2. Study the youtube video, remember the lines, make mental notes of the approx cornering speeds for the hairpins etc.
3. Use the in-car tuning menu to set your front and rear braking strength to 10. This will allow you to get deeper into the braking zones and make the car feel a lot more stable under braking.
4. 6 seconds off the pace?? Come on, don't be afraid to abuse the tyres...

This is the reason I love the GT series, because I will feel damn good when I do it. My 'regular' times are now down in the 1.13.2s but twice last night I got 1.13.0xx :grumpy: once even my son groaned and said 'I thought you had it that time', and he was in the conservatory !

I am losing time on the last two hairpins, mostly down to inconsistency as I seem to be using a different line each time. Does anyone have any tips in addition to what has already been posted ? (Using standard physics, all aids off and DS3). Thanks.

Nothing to add to the tips posted already. I'm just here to commiserate with others who have yet to conquer Eiger.

Thank you to all of the drivers who have taken time to share some expertise though. The tips I'm reading are in line with the issues in my laps.

I'm using a sixaxis for now. Standard physics. Only aid is ABS at 1 - sometimes 0 as I try to find the right formula. My best time so far is 1min 1525 seconds.

While this is a very frustrating mission, I am enjoying it. I do get frustrated with my own inconsistencies and curse myself out loud when I know I made a mistake. But, I am enjoying myself in a very sick and twisted way.

I've sought out a local support group to help me cope with the stress. It's called ENRAGeD (Eiger Nordwand Racing Association of Gifted Drivers) lol.

No seriously, this is a great test. It would be awesome to complete the gold here before I get my G25. I think the tips posted here will surely help a lot. Thanks again.

I managed to get gold by turning off the ASM.

Yes, managed it with a 1.12.937. What I did differently was I put my n/s rear on the dirt in the second of the two uphill hairpins. It helped drift the car a little and hence carry a fraction more speed. Phew. I feel happy. :D

After winning 1,930,xxx credits each 7250 credits (for silver) at a time, I finally got the gold on that one at 1:12:492 and I did it because I messed up and overshot the long left turn after the tunnel. I hit the fence and ricocheted back onto the track. I plan to go back and get it without hitting anything, because I know it is doable.

If you want the best examples for how to drive the course, go up to the Rankings (online) for the Time Trials. The top 10 times for each event/car are saved in Replay. Download the top 3 or 4 Replays and watch them closely - espoecially the times completed by the Japanese guys - they do NOT use the fences or rails. The American that owns the top time used the fence like I wound up doing. I do not like fence riding and I suck at it.

Having been advised not to use the handbrake, just thought I'd mention (having finally got the gold in the Evo) that I persevered with it regardless, and it did seem to help. A VERY light touch of it at the end of braking into the tighter turns for me gets the car into the right attitude to pull out quicker.

Just the M3 time trial to get done now and I'm "all gold".

Would people please specify in their posts: Standard or Professional.

Thank you.

I got 1:19.xxx on my first try with the M3 in time trials on Pro mode using the DS3 I think I can improve it with more practice , but I really could benefit from a steering wheel as I can't get really precise steering and adjust the car like I want to using the DS3.

Looking at just how quick some of the guys are in the GT Academy it wouldn't surprise me if one of them couldn't crack this test using pro physics.

triumph for me (somewhat), after a loooong time, I finally got the silver on this track (1'14.216).... I'm using the six-axis and have always been using automatic gears, but I could see that I wasn't gaining any momentum from it, so I decided to go manual on this mofo and I finally broke new grounds..... The car handles so much better, turning and breaking is a breeze now, all aids were off..... Still running standard mode, wouldn't be able to do it in pro mode.... And I still dont think that I'll be able to get gold on this, but I'm pleased with the silver for now....

Oh well.... After a few hours I started the game up again, only to find out that I'd forgot to save my silver time...... Dammit!

Yeah I know how that sort of feels disappointing.

I had several excellent clean laps that were 1:13.0xx. The one that got me gold bit the wall after the downhill... bleh. Part of the asinine frustration comes from the fact that your first lap suffers from a slow start, and from the third lap on, traffic is always in the way in the hairpins.

So really, your second lap is your best shot. Some final comments.

The long curve after the downhill benefits from a fast entry... followed by a little skid-induced rotation. For a seemingly simple corner, it is where I was most inconsistent with my time. The 2nd apex is very late.

The 3rd hairpin in the twisty section is tough. The car is very eager to understeer, especially under braking. This corner requires you to get your speed down to 25-27mph if you want to take it tightly. Taking it wide adds a lot of time...

Out of all of the 'Beat the Target Lap Time' Challenges, I have only completed the C Class one with the Cappucino....and that was only done by darting in front of the faster cars just before they passed me, giving me a a huge speed burst.
That was dodgy, and I can't get anywhere near gold with the other target lap time challenges....but looking at that video, maybe the problem is just following the driving line too much.
