Jordan,

I am working my way to starting a new endurance race series in the 'Long Race Series' forum, based on the ideas used in the WRS official comp.

  • It will (hopefully) be a long running, enduro race series with each race lasting at least 25-45 minutes per race. With the race length determined by time not lap count.
  • A different car/track combination will be used each race. (Which will run for 10-14 days per)
  • It will probably involve divisions.
  • Driver's can race when/if they want to (or not), so no requirement to race each week.
  • Suggestions accepted from the racers for future combo's.
  • ETC,ETC.

So it is basically a development of the WRS, designed for those of us that like their races a little longer.
I Just wanted to ask if you think that it is appropriate for it to be run in the 'Long Race Series' forum.
And, more importantly, if it is OK for me to start it up (as it is an almost direct porting of the official WRS format)?

I would not want to be seen as purely copying the WRS for the sake of doing it, and I also would not want any animosity from those who admin/participate in the WRS. I have the utmost respect for all involved.

But I think I could make it work, and those that frequent that forum are showing quite a lot of interest already.
HERE is the link to the interest/discussion thread involved, if you would like to peruse it.

Respectfully

Neil

Though I'm not Jordan, I can't see a problem with it myself. There's only a limited number of ways you can have a race series going and we don't hold a patent on any one way.

Definitely Long Race Series forum for it, too.

Thanks Famine!👍

Super-Mod's answer is good enough for me. :)

Just thought it'd be nice to ask the question.

Yes, the OLR Forum is just for that - people to set up their own events. And yes, the Long Race Series is the correct board. The only reason you'd need Jordan's permission is if you wanted to call it "the Official GTP Enduro Series" or something like that. Other than that, go to it, and have fun. Good luck.

Thanks Duke!

I only wanted to make certain that I wasn't stepping on anyone's toes, or potentially causing any kind of hard feelings.

It is hard to judge, because the Long Race Series forum has only 'Boom' as a Mod, and he hasn't been online for a good while. So therefore we had no-one to ask directly!

I don’t have a problem with the idea, and I certainly don’t object to how you wish to structure the series. 👍
I would however object to the term ‘WRS’ being used in a way that you have for your suggestions thread: Endurance WRS! Suggestions Box I believe it would be confusing to members who are wishing to join us (the WRS) in the future and could give the impression that this new series is part of the WRS proper. I have no objection to something like WES (Weekly Endurance Series) for example. 👍

Title changed!
Though, I am puzzled by the fact that only you have have found this a problem?
Duke, Mr P, and a few other mod's have looked at the thread (I've been watching)......and not one has objected to it being referred to as the 'Endurance WRS', or as a 'WRS Endurance Style' series.

Maybe I'm just being a little sensitive, but when a WRS mod, a Super-Mod and an administrator gives the go-ahead, and have no problems with either the title, style, confusing factors??......?????

What's the prob?

I'm not stealing anyone's thunder, taking away a copyrighted name, or doing anything against any of the board's rules and regulations (implied or otherwise)
I'm just creating a series that will work for guys and gals that like their races to last longer than a single hot lap, or at the most 4-5 laps.

That's all!

Nope,

I would have too object to the WRS name used.

And Sphinx's explanation why, makes perfectly sense to me.

So thanks for the name change.👍

I’m not finding your request a problem. You’re more than welcome to copy the current WRS structure/method. You’re also more than welcome to make any changes to the structure/method as you see fit in order to accommodate your ideas.

The WRS however isn’t just a name, it’s an institution, and as WRS Admins, Sjaak and I are committed to protect the name of the WRS and everything it stands for. I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but if any Tom, Dick or Harry were allowed to use the WRS name here, then it would be impossible for us WRS Admins to maintain the high level of respect that the WRS has throughout the OLR community, not just on this board, but on every major GT site on the Internet.

Nope,

I would have too object to the WRS name used.

I am no authority on the matter, but would also have had to question the use of the WRS name here. This endurance series is designed to run for 10-14 days per race, not exactly weekly.

So was the (short lived) GTA:San Andreas race series' use of the term WRS a concern to you?

You said you were planning on making a "WRS-style" series, not that you were going to call it the Enduro WRS. There's a subtle but important difference. Thank you for changing the name of your event series.

Yeah, I see your point of view there mate.
I used to run in the WRS (for well over a year) and wouldn't want to jeopardise the status of the WRS in the wider OLR community.
So the name change will stick

I am no authority on the matter, but would also have had to question the use of the WRS name here. This endurance series is designed to run for 10-14 days per race, not exactly weekly.

The time period for the races will be anything from a week to a fortnight, depending on the difficulty of the combo. I know in the interest thread, I stated 10-14 days. But we are at the very early stages of setting this up, so most things are still in a state of flux

So we are going to stick to the WES (Weekly Endurance Series). It seems the best title for it, the 10-14 day Endurance series or the Fortnightly Endurance Series just doesn't have the same ring to it.:yuck:

Anyway, all things said and done, the wrangle over the title is sorted, so I'll just get on with it.
By the Way,
All comers are of course welcome! The more the merrier.
