Until the inevitable patch I have a tip to help avoid the pitlane bug.

When you get called in by the race engineer either come in early or a few laps late. If you do this you should avoid any problems.

Also apparently selecting a longer race distance helps.

Yeah, one of the developers posted this on the Codemasters forum :

Many thanks for the rapid feedback on this. We really appreciate the details and, now that the team are returning from their short holiday, have started an immediate investigation into the cause. Just to clarify that this is most likely a bug with the pit stop release system being overly cautious, which is compounded by the limited pit stop strategy window in short race distances, rather than any form of intentional rubberbanding. Here’s a workaround for now, while we investigate further: -

Altering Your Race Strategy
By interacting with the ‘Tyre’ stack menu in the garage prior to a race you can adjust your default pit strategy. By making any of the following changes then this problem will be significantly less likely to occur as you will stop yourself from pitting on the same lap as the majority of the AI:

1) Increase or decrease your first pit stop by a lap from the pre-set default

2) Reverse your strategy to start the race on the prime tyres rather than the options, which will allow you to get significantly later in the race before having to make your pit stop (you’ll notice a recommended number of laps for each tyre compound, which will help you determine what lap to make your pit stop). This will require you to alter the both tyres which you start the race on and the pit stop tyres as well as your intended pit stop lap.

3) Alternatively you could also carry on with your default race strategy but choose to ignore the lap where the Race Engineer calls you in and select to pit on the subsequent lap. This is what I tend to do.

Altering Your Race Distance
The more you increase your default race distance up from 20%, the less likely this will occur as the AI will have much larger windows in which to make their stops rather than all coming in on the same lap, as well as the distances between the field becoming much more widely spread.

This issue is almost certainly less likely to be an issue in Multiplayer since the problem’s frequency is a function of how many people are in the pits at once, and your position in the garage line-up.

We'll be back when we've got some more details on this but rest assured we are looking into it.

Codemasters.

Moar like Codefailures amirite?

But seriously I'm just going to do online now until GT5. I shouldn't have to alter my 12 lap race strategy because of a shoddy dev team :grumpy: Sorry Codemasters, you've lost me as a supporter.

Lol, been playing for 2 days on 20-30% races and never been affected.

Anes, calm down buddy, it's not a huge thing and they're fixing it now. Abandoning the entire company seems pretty harsh, IMO.

From what happened to me it keeps you in your pitbox until the pitlane is empty, went in in 5th or 6th and came out in last place after watching half the field drive past in the pitlane while I was waiting to be released.

I also can't get pit request to work or the pit limiter. I tried braking just before turn in to the box but overshot it and lost time, seems you're meant to brake when you're half the length of the pitlane away, pitstops are a complete mess as are the menus. And why do I have to set up controller and driver aids for every game mode?

Anes, we dont need your complaining on every thread in the F1 board. We get it. Go online and let us discuss the game WE like.

Apparently it has something to do with the game being too cautious with the release. The rules abou unsafe pit releases apply, and the game is supposed to drop you out into a safe gap in the traffic - but it instead decides that the safest gap is at the end of the queue.

Not really, I bought GRID, Dirt and now F1 2010. All have been arcadey and F1 2010 is a very bad advertisement for the actual F1 brand imo. There is nothing professional about it at all. I payed for a product and I got a kids game.

And I'm lucky that I have the net hooked up to my PS3, but what about the people who can't D/L the patch? Codemasters have sold them a half built game. I wouldn't be surprised if Codemasters was responsibile for the Dheli Commonwealth games as well.

yeah the pit bug is realy bad. also the puncture bug. when i am in the box and i drive out i start whit a puncture ??? :scared:

They'd have to find ways of patching it, like with every other game released on PS3 or the firmware updates.

Seriously, get a grip.

Thanks for that because I heard you guys complaining about a pitlane bug and thought, 'How bad can it be? Every game has bugs but are they being too picky?'

But now I see that it'll be pretty anoying, say you want to do a proper F1 race of 72 laps, but pitting is just soo horrible.

Tbf, just pit a bit earlier and you won't ever see the bug. Of course it's not ideal, but it's not gamebreaking.

I know but it can muddle with your head a bit in a 72 lap race. Anyway, Im sure they'll patch it, nothing to make me stop buying CM games.

We live in a beta world  unfinished products get released then patches follow. :grumpy:

get game reviews from forums like this not mags. they tend to bet more truthfull, and to the point. I did'nt get F1 2010 for the fact it uses the same EGO engine as GRID and that was nothing like a sim racer IMO. More of an arcade game. And if all you want from a game is better graphics play on a high spec PC. Better gameplay and more realistic car psysic's, and more thought put into wheel button config come higher on my list. and the fact that incar views look like you've got your face up to the windscreen.

this game is just a big bug.. damn i've never seen a game so full of bugs. if CM doesn't make a patch .. they'll stole my money. such a shame. do they test the game?!!

Do a search for "Codemasters False Advertising" on youtube, you'll see codies have a previous track record for this type of half assed unfinished game.

And yes, I made the video.

As for living in a Beta world, if alot more people voted with their wallets, like I did, we wouldn't.

you never played FIFA10?:yuck: and still these games are so addictive :scared:

i had a big problem whit the pits, it always take between 6 and 11 seconds to change tyres. on manual pitting i can do it one 4 seconds. its a little better.

I see the really long pit stop big has carried through from last year. Sometimes it took 15-19 seconds to make a stop on f1 2009.
