I know I'm strumming on the same harp I always have, but I'm just curious if it would be all that hard.

Could we get post count and join date on the user display block, that's next to each posts. Example: the old GTP Lite.

If that's not doable, I understand. It's not like I haven't asked for it before, and I do know what it's like to run/manage a popular site (albeit I didn't manage something quite as large as GTP yet, I've managed some with over 20,000 users and a daily visitation in the 50,000's.).

No worries, if it's not possible. :)

Post count probably isn't doable, as it could encourage immature users to spam, boosting their post count in an attempt to impress others. As it stands now, the post count is more of a measurement than a status symbol.

On the other hand, displaying the join date is something that I'd like to see. The user display block is a bit spartan, and it would be nice to be able to figure out how long someone has been here at a quick glance. I've occasionally mistook recently-joined members for long-time regulars simply because of good posting habits.

From a physical/logistic standpoint, both are quite doable.

However, Jordan decided to emphasize quality of posts over quantity of posts, which is why post count is no longer publically displayed (though, of course, always available by clicking on the user's name). I doubt that the post count will make a reappearance.

Join date may fit into the plan, though. Jordan watches this board regularly and I'm sure he'll see this thread.

And that is the idea behind it (to some extent). 👍
Combine that with the Spam/post count issues mentioned by Toyomatt84 and it becomes more clear why the system is set to display as it does. :D

I'm sure Jordan will have a look at this and think over it (even if his mind doesn't change).
Personally, I'm indifferent to the idea. If I want to see a post count or a join date I can simply click the user name and view their public profile (which has both the post count and join date).

In any case, atleast you did well to post the thread where you did and not in the GT4 forum like so many before you. 👍

As Duke said, both statistics can very easily be included. However, it is unlikely that I will include post counts again due to the problems that simple number can cause within the community. Registration dates are a different story, and I have considered including them in GTP9. If there is a lot of support for them, of course, I will consider it even more.

Well, maybe displaying it as a skin option, without it being included in the standard skin set. I see the reasons why niether are used in the current configuration, but I'm still interested in the project. I use the two as more of a "memory" tool, than anything. I, like Wolfe2x7, have problems remembering people's user names and matching comments/posts of theirs, from the past.

It's not that big of an issue, so I understand if it's going to be gone for good. :)

Thanks for the replies, they're much appreciated. 👍

I'd like to see join date displayed as "member since 200X", right above "Location" and below the avatar. I have no desire to see the post count return.

In all reality, confusing a new poster with one that's been here for years, because of the post quality, is something I'd like to see on a more regular occasion.

Well it was never an argument to begin with, it was a suggestion. Seems like it has been comprehensively covered too.

It became a small-time argument when we started discussing the validity of the additions. And, I don't know if you're implying that this has been covered before, but it really hasn't been discussed very deeply. But, whatever, it's not a big deal.

It was a discussion, not an argument. THIS WOULD BE AN ARGUMENT!!! ;)

I think even the join date would be a bit misleading. When I joined, I made a couple of posts, then disappeared for a few months before becoming a regular poster. Somewhere, there is a 13 year old who joined a year ago, and is waiting for the perfect opportunity to unleash his 1337 5p33k on GTP, then demand the respect other year-old GTPers receive.

Let's just keep that info tucked away in the mine-shaft that is the Public Profile.

I agree. The look of this forum is a good balance between too much and too sparse. So many forums just look messy with too much info in the left-hand user panel and huge pictured sigs. Or they have no smilies, allow no pictures and have tiny avatars, but only for members who've posted 20,000 posts or been a member since the 1970's. IMO if you want to see how long a user has been joined, what their favourite quote is or what percentage of GT4 they've completed - a simple click on their name give you this info.

I say keep it clean and tidy 👍

I'm happy with post counts being displayed just in the profile (just hit 3,000 which is the most i've had at any forum i think?) as it isn't really important and does cause trouble sometimes.

The join date i'd like to see returned though, love showing off that i was the 18th registered member here. :D ;)
Take away the inactive/irregular posters from that list and i'm about the fifth member!

I'm probably in the top 1000. :dopey:

Well, I'm #86106 :p

I Think that join date would be a nice addition, But as I have seen with other forums(along with a few others in this thread), Post count only increases spam.

That's just my $2.00, um er......i mean $0.03! :dopey:

Chris
