I noticed the other day that there seems to be automatic matching on some of the races on a spec. I chose a nissan 240rs for the polyphony cup and it seemed to match me up with some other older cars. The most recent car there was a 94 gtr which was my main competition. My 240rs was stock. I've noticed this before I think!

The races all have fixed lineups which start after you reset your console. It's nothing to do with matching up I'm afraid. :indiff:

Just as an added caveat to that, the line-ups that can appear do change slightly from race to race. Meaning, there is a fixed list of say 15 or 16 cars that the computer will pick from to fill the field of 11 AI challengers.

That's why sometimes you see a different car at the pole or in the race that wasn't there before. I do believe that each time you enter the race (not a restart) the field is randomly picked from the list though and not based on what car you choose to race with.

Unless you mean after the set lineups (I'm still not sure if this actually exists) then you're wrong. The computer doesn't pick the cars at random for every race, there's been lineups with the opponents you can race against implemented into the game, and they always reset after you reset the console.

I can't think of an example off the top of my head, but there are most definitely different lineups for certain events and which lineup that you get for the race is chosen at random from the available cars.

A Seasonal comes to mind, but I can't remember which one. I'll have to check again when I get home tonight, but I know I've seen a line-up change for the same race after entering it more than once. One lineup has a faster car at the pole and one will have a slower car. Dang, wish I could remember which one it was that I am recalling.

Maybe, I'm not understanding what you mean by "they always reset after you reset the console."

I'm silently thinking though that after a certain number of lineups it runs out and it selects at random, or if you do something else the lineups change randomly. It happened with me in the Supercar Festival while doing a race for my fanfic. I went into the race, did it, forgot to save the replay, then looked for that lineup and never saw it again. Bearing in mind even colours get kept :boggled:

But if you look in the Nurburgring 4h thread in the Race Reports section, find my lineups post, then reset your game and go into the Nurburgring 4h straight away, you will always get the first lineup, quit it then enter it and you'll get the second one. If you reset from there though you go back to the first lineup. Every event has one of these sequences with the lineup always being the same if you enter it straight away after a reset (by straight away I mean not advancing any game days).

Ah OK, I see now, so we agree that there are different lineups that the AI uses, but how they are used depends on how you enter the race. I thought it was just random, but you found a specific pattern. 👍

I actually knew about them for quite a while. Spotted it first in the Nurb 4h thread when I noticed the same lineup coming up in many races. I might even bother to do a spreadsheet with lineups for all the events, but I'm sure I won't have the time to do that. Or the patience

Do a spread sheet as AI car select is a pain.
I want to do the B spec Ring 4Hr race in a slower car.
But the Audi R8 LMS race car turns up and I have to Exit the Race then re-enter the ring 4hr to get rid of the Audi R8 again. Normaly takes about 3 goes before it vanishes.

Try for this lineup then.

Lineup 5
1. Nissan Gran Turismo Skyline GT-R '01
2. High End Performance G37
3. Amuse S2000 GT1 '04 - Grand Prix White
4. Nismo Fairlady Z Z-tune (Z33) '03 - Diamond Silver Metallic
5. Mine's Lancer Evolution VI '00 - Scotia White
6. Amuse/Opera Performance Gran Turismo 350Z RS - Diamond Black (P)
7. (player)
8. Opera Performance 350Z '04
9. Nismo Skyline GT-R S-tune (R32) '00 - Sparkling Silver Metallic
10. AEM S2000
11. RE Amemiya FD3S RX-7
12. Amuse Nismo 380RS Super Leggera - White Pearl (3P)

The Amuse GT1 is the fastest car there, but there are at least 5 cars you could race that are faster than it. Bearing in mind this is the normal Standard '04 version as opposed to the all-too-fast S2k Turbo you can also race against.
