After spending 120k I FINALLY passed it lol...

I accidentally purchased the Ford Mach 1, which turns out to have UNDER 300hp.

So I bought the Dodge Challenger RT instead @75,000cr, did the 2k tune and lost the race RIGHT at the finish line because for some STUPID reason the transmission for the car limited the top speed at 189km/h in 4th gear. SO cheaping out, I bought the 5speed transmission WHICH turns out REDUCED the top speed to 166km/h.

I finally gave up and bought the 20,000cr transmission and adjusted the top speed. Needless to say I was able to go 220km/h + and beat the 2nd car by 9 secs.

Please tell me there is an easier way to beat it lol... and anyone else experience the same thing?

I just raced the Lemans (Sarthe) track with that super long back stretch. I had already install the 6 speed close ratio upgraded transmission. One my first shot at the track, it was hitting the rev limiter at 186. :(
I looked at the ratios of it and the standard transmission and the standard had much better gearing.
Swapped the transmission back to the standard and I was hitting 215 down the back stretch. What a waste of money that upgraded transmission was. Lesson learned.

And WTF does this game not have brake upgrades?
My favorite car is perfect in every way, except it needs a big brake kit badly.

I did the same thing - buy a load of different muscle cars only to be dissapointed by them. But I should have gone into the tune menu and alter the top-speed setting, so it won't be hitting the rev-limiter all the time...

I used a Camaro Z28 with a few horsepower mods. In hindsight, I should've bought an adjustable transmission. Most muscle cars top out at about 135, which isn't enough for 420hp at Monza.

I agree that the key to unlocking the muscle car's potential in this game is to get that advanced transmission. After a bit of tuning, most muscle cars won't need much other upgrades to be competitive in their appropriate events.

Passed it easy with a Plymouth '70 Superbird I got for cheap enough with stock gearing. Topped out at 200kph but was enough to stay ahead.

I did the same thing. Bought the awesome Mach muscle car, only to top out at 184km, getting my butt kicked. You guys recommend the highest $$ transmission????

I bought the Challenger, installed the fully customizable tranny and tuned it for higher top speed. It was easy after that, but like others have said the tranny upgrade is a must or you'll be on the limiter in no time.

I was actually just about to start a thread on this topic. I just decided to go back and do the classic muscle car event, bought a Dodge Challenger R/T '70, spent the rest of my money on tuning it up to 600+ bhp (was gonna let one of my b-spec drivers have a go at it afterwards, and they usually need to be overpowered to win).
I started the a-spec race, let my shiny new supercharger catapult me to 200 kph in no time, and then I was just banging against the rev limiter repeatedly.

I had a few thousand credits left so I decided to give the fixed close 5 speed transmission a shot as I couldn't afford the customizable one. Close gearing indeed - now I'm hitting the rev limiter at only 165 kph :).

I guess there's no way around buying the customizable transmission if you want to drive a classic muscle car?

HAHAHAH oh man dont you wish u saw my thread first? XDDD and nope u gotta drop 20k more on it

I took the Cougar. I wanted one anyway. Painted it black. Upgraded the power. Did the cheap tranny mod which turned out to make me slower (as mentioned) and wound up doing the 20k tranny. After that, easy peasy.

This shot is from the classic car race.

I thought my used '70 Challenger was broken. It wouldn't go past 110mph even though it had over 400hp. I was really scratching my head. I increased the hp and it still was stuck at 110mph.

Ahh...so it's the transmission that's gimped. Thanks for the info.

I bought a Challenger RT from the dealership, put the fully customizable transmission in, raised the top speed, and won the Classic Muscle Car race first try - so thanks for the tips.

I actually raised the top speed way more than I needed to. I think the fastest I ever got the car was 145 at the end of the last straight.

Sound like me :)
Only difference is I painted mine Lemans Blue. I even went with the cheap tranny first only to find that it was slower and then went to the race tranny. Piece of cake.

Haven't done it in A-spec yet, but I did have my B-spec bob beat this race using my '71 Mach 1. Added ECU, 1st stage engine rebuild, aero kit (really helpful on this car!), full custom suspension (lower -8/-8, increase dampers on front over back), and even just the 5-speed. Yeah, my rev-limiter hits around 140, but because of the suspension tuning it was able to take the corners much better than most of the other cars in the race.

I figure if B-spec Bob can do it in that car, then so can I. ;) At least Bob did get me the 66 Shelby for golding that one!

Edit: Of course, since I now have that Cobra... I plan on driving it in every race it's eligible for. ;)

If you want the max control of your car, the fully adjustable tranny is the only way to go. For city and short courses, 200 mph is usually not needed, adjust down, for Sarthe and other long straights, adjust it up for the win. The trans is one of the first mods I do.

In some cars it is the way to go. In others it is not needed and the way it whines under throttle makes me avoid it where it is not needed.

I used a dodge challanger to pass this, won the race without getting fully customisable transmission however I afterwards bought the transmission because I have abit of a thing for muscle cars.
