A Strange Question

Hello people. This may seem like the most random question ever, but I couldn't find a quick answer and I don't want to go through the whole car list to see if I can find a car with this. Are there any cars in the game with a MF drivetrain? As in a midengine car with front wheel drive? And if so, which is the best? Thank for putting up with this (assuming it doesn't get closed in 2 seconds)

P.S. There is an actual reason for this. I had a weird idea about a drifting car tune, and I want to actually try it out. MF is the best way

Nope. As far as I know, there isn't. Sorry.

Almost positive there isn't. There's 4WD with the option to transfer fifty percent of the drivetrain to the front wheels, now I wonder if any car has a higher setting.

Does that even exist? It sounds horrible.

I've never heard of a MF layout. Seems like it would be begging for understeer.

With that wiki link, yes technically the engine is behind the front axle and closer to the middle of the car so it is classified as a mid-engine. However, if the engine is in front of you, it will be regarded as a front engine, and if it is behind you it's a mid or rear engine.

^ To be more specific, a front mid-engine layout, which is the same on the Ferrari 599 and the Dodge Viper;)

Realistically, anything other than front engine, the motor will have to be behind the driver.

Who's going to put an engine there and then run a transmission to the front only?

Still, I guess car makers have done some pretty strange things over the years...

PS, the best part of this question:

"Which is the best"

Like there's going to be more than one.

Prove me wrong somebody, I could use the laugh.

Hmmm... how well does this work? Could you make a 4WD car handle like a FR by transferring power from the front to the rear?

Yes. My older step-brother drifts an R32. It's fast. From him, "I don't care what people say, It's a rear wheel drive car now!"

Other words, it works.

as a matter of fact.. the rx7 has its engine mounted behind the front wheels and in theory should be mr but its fr

Many cars are like that, RX-7/8, S2000, Corvette, Z4, it's called a "front midship" or "front-mid".

Either way, the OP is looking for a front drive, mid engined car.

I thought this was an interesting question! Seems to me like most things have been done, at least once, even if they wouldn't make much practical sense.

But let me get this straight, with a 4wd, you can transfer 100% to the rear, & make it rear-wheel-drive... but only go as far as putting 50% in the front, so you can't make it front wheel drive?

You can transfer 90% to the rear, not 100%

This idea needs a long chassis for this layout and would be pretty much pointless as it would be costly and pretty pointless as powr will be limited if you are running FWD

Ehh I like the power transfer idea. Maybe i'll try that, or I'll get bored of the idea and give up. I can't actually think of a physical reason that my stupid plan wouldn't work, but then again I'm an idiot :dopey: Thanks people

Not in the game but I'm fairly sure the Ferrari FF is.

Ferrari FF is 4WD.

You can only put up o 50% of the power in a 4WD in the front because the front wheels are just a bad place to put power.

The only reason an MF car would exist would be if the maker was catastrophically stupid. Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised to see that it was from the 20's... And French.

FF cars work because the engine is in the front, thus giving it a front weight bias. When you accelerate, that weight shifts to the back, but as 60% or so of the weight is over the front axle, that's ok. Now swap the weight distribution so the front axle has 40% of the weight, and you'd have no grip; the car would struggle to put any power down and would really, really struggle to turn. In all other drivetrain layouts the weight (and therefore grip) is shifted towards the driven wheels (or, in the case of AWD, some of the driven wheels), which is why they're usually regarded as better for performance cars.
