This guy is a Darwin Award winner in the making.

Picture the scene. You're a 40 year old farmer from Norfolk, England. During some digging work you uncover a spherical piece of green metal, about 8 inches across. You suspect it may be an unexploded hand grenade. What do you do next?

What DO you do?

No, not our hero. Our hero gets out of the digger and picks the thing up. He is then struck by an overwhelming compulsion to unscrew an access port on the top and press the button he finds underneath.

Let's recap - he's found what he thinks is a hand grenade, so he picks it up, dismantles part of it and presses a button.

In an uncharacteristic moment of clarity, he realises that letting go of the button may cause a detonation and so he buries his hand in a box of sand and calls bomb disposal. 5 hours later they arrive and examine the device. The good news is that it's actually part of the suspension of a Citroen 2CV.

Stand up, Mr. David Page. You're a clot.

👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 Out of 5 for the laughter factor Famine... The guy must have never gone to school or heard of violence..

Yeah that guy must feel so stupid! But ...

... I have a bomb in my car. Actually, so do most of you. I know that they are on BMW cars too. It's also known as a brake booster or pressure regulator.

Basically it's a nitrogen charged canister and diaphragm that is designed to store hydraulic pressure for when the car is switched off. The bomb holds several thousand PSI. It also comes in handy if your car dies in an emergency braking situation.

If you ever have to change it make sure you release the pressure from the damn thing beforehand (keep pumping the brakes when the car is off - 30 times will usually do) or you will be counting your fingers afterwards - there will not be 5.

Even though it is shaped like a small hand grenade, in quattro circles there is a reason it's called a bomb and it's really nothing to do with the shape of it at all!

Well that guy was obviously shielded from the outside world...

I would just love to see the look of the Bomb Disposal Unit's faces when they found out what he did!

God, cars used to not even have power brakes. Now our society is composed of such a bunch of p***ies that they can't even stop their cars without the booster. I have tried it (pop the car into neutral, kill the ignition, and step on the brakes) and yes, it is harder than normal, but it is far from impossible; just requires a firm foot. (Granted, I think the non-power brakes on older cars had the master cylinder/slave cylinder ratio tweaked so you had more mechanical advantage.)
