a thought on peripheral vision

i was just thinking, to somewhat simulate peripheral vision for GT4, they should make it to where your point of view shifts slightly when you turn, as if you were looking into a tight turn so you can actually see the turn itself. seems like a common sense addition and honestly suprised this hasn't been in any games yet (or has it?)

I've seen it in a few games... but I can't recall what they were. It worked well in a couple of them. But sometimes it becomes slightly irritating. Because the feature can be too sensitive. It would have to be adjustable, and definitly have the option to turn it off if the user didn't feel like it helped them any, or if it hurt them.

Yes, it actually has, and its great. In SimBin's GTR demo, that is actually a function you can adjust in the settings. I believe it only does this when your in the 'cockpit' view, but still, its nice. I think in GT, though, it would be a little weird. It works good in GTR, because you have the frame of reference of the dash to go by as to where the car is actually travelling. But, in GT, the 'in car' view, so to speak, isn't really in the car, and there is no dash. So, the camera turning a little might cause problems with your frame of reference. Who knows, might work well if they tried it. Never know. But, if you check out that GTR Demo, its real nice.

ok sorry this is off topic, but what is "GTR" Ive heard it around alot and supposedly its a video game that will kick ass, right? What does it stand for, and where can i get more info?

Go to good old Google, and type in 'SimBin GTR' and you'll find plenty. Its a racing sim based on the FIA GT Championship. The demo is out now, and its amazing. You only get to race at Spa, but its cool. You get either a Lister Storm or a Morgan Aero 8, both very fun. The best way I can think to describe this game is its like MS Flight Sim, but for racing. Its great, totally realistic. Not to put the GT series down, but it makes the GT games seem like fun arcade games. It just has a much higher level of detail and realistic feel. GT is great, but this game is over the top comparatively. Obviously, they have many fewer cars and only a dozen or so tracks and what not, so they they can put some more details in the game, but either way its amazing. Just Google it, and you'll know all you want.

Yeah that would enance my raceing experinece alot good idea!

About time someone brings this up!
Problems of refrence points can be eliminated easily by adding a clearly visible point that tells you that the car is going in that direction, and shifting the camera only a few degrees.

this was used in EA's NFS Porsche Unleashed (at least the PC version as far as i know) and produced surprisingly nice results. unfortunately you almost need to have a fully 3d cockpit for this to be pulled off effectively and i dont think that's gonna happen. with no cockpit that feature would be quite disorienting.

I agree with jeffpresto, if we had something like a windshield we'd have a reference point, or sides to the cockpit, but we don't, so you'd almost wind up with the feeling you were drifting when you weren't I think...

Thats exactly what I was saying earlier. In GTR it works well, because in the cockpit view, you have the entire dash to use for reference. I think its safe to say GT4 won't have dashs for all the cars, so I think it might be hard for them to implement right now. It is a great feature, and works very well in GTR. It would be nice to think about for GT5 and beyond though. With the graphics shaping up as well as they are for GT4 with PS2, its hard to imagine how good things will look when PS3 shows up and future GT games arrive. With bigger and badder hardware, I'm sure many of these types of features and effects will show up. I'm sure we aren't the only ones to think of these things. We can only hope and wait to see.
