Abnormal horsepower changes. Does anyone else have this happening?

I've had several cars change their horsepower ratings. Most of them have been small changes. My Mazda RX-7 Type-RS went from 471-horsepower (I think it was) down to 469-horsepower. My Acura NSX Type-R went from 508 to 511. And while those are small changes, my Dodge Viper GTS has gained nearly 50 horsepower! I had it at 550-horsepower and now it's pushing 600. Does anyone else experience this change in numbers?

And can anyone tell me what might be causing it? I've been told you can gain 1-HP from a lap or two on the Test Course. Forget where that came from but I haven't driven on that track except for once or twice. I think my RX-7 Type-RS ran on the Test Course once. My Mercedes-Benz SLK 230 Kompressor has been there once and it has (though not immediately after the Test Course run) gained I think 2-3 HP as well. It was at 410-HP and it has raised to 413 now I think it is.

Some small increases in horsepower are great for some of the weaker cars but in the case of my Dodge Viper GTS, I don't want that monster getting any more powerful. The Mugen S2000 though, that car stops at a disappointing 380-horsepower. I'd love being able to make that car more powerful.

That factor is part of the game. GT3 tries to simulate real life because when you run a car long enough, depending how long, the horsepower may go up. If you did not change the oil, then the horsepower will go down because the oil is dirty and it makes the engine work harder against the friction between the pistons and the cylinder wall.

If you use the search function, you will find more about this topic.

Oh, and by the way, your signature is too long. Maximum number of lines is six including spaces.

Yeah, I know that when a car is driven the horsepower changes up and down a bit but I keep the oil maintained in all my cars. If I am done with a car and am going to be changing to another one, or if I've just completed a series of races with it. I change the oil on it before I switch cars or take it back out for another series.

It was more the changes in the Viper GTS's horsepower that had me boggled. The other cars have gone up or down only a few HP. But the Viper GTS, if that thing gets any more powerful, I'm afraid I won't be able to control it as well anymore. I happen to like it like it is.

Aaand, is my signature being a little long that bad of a thing? I can take some of the cars out of it if I have to. But I was just adding on all the cars that I really took a liking to. That ended up including three new cars when I updated it.

Probably a way to maintain the power is to not shift gears at redline. I really do not know for sure, but if you just keep on redlining the car, it will eventually die and then like you said, it will be hard to recover back to the way it was before.

Having a long signature makes the post longer than it is supposed to be. That is why there is a limit of six lines. It also makes the viewers scroll down farther just to find information ;)

I agree with Thio.

Usually horsepower will fluctuate depending on the cause. Break-in period will cause it to increase and if it decreases, change the oil. (it usually is pretty dirty) Also changing the oil in a car before you drive it will boost the horsepower up even more.

Hi Tokyo Drifter, and welcome to GTPlanet.

What you're seeing is a characteristic of the game. Bought cars will increase HP as they are 'run in'. The peak is typically about 10% higher than the initial value. Prize cars come pre-run-in, so there is no HP gain.

With extended use, the maximum HP decreases by about 5%.

You need to change the oil every 300km. Between 100 & 300km from the previous change, horsepower will steadily drop by up to 20%. This is restored once you change the oil.

In order to stop people writing screeds and screeds in their signature, a limit had to be set. This was set to 6 lines of standard size text. Text that is larger than standard size counts as two lines. Please edit your signature so that it complies with this limit.

I had the same problem with my ZZII. It was at 570, then it dropped to 567, then lower and it stopped at 558. God I love that car, I don't want it to lose any more, because I can't get it back unless I stick a turbo on it.

It won't drop lower, they have a minimum Bhp and a maximum Bhp break in and decrease, even if you change the oil before it goes dark you will still see the Bhp fluctuate, it just won't hit the bottom level.

I may be a newbie...but you should use the search function.

Here is a thread that goes into detail:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31999&highlight=horsepower+modifiers

Because the modifiers are a percentage rather than a set hp gain, you'll find that high hp cars will have a higher hp gain compared to lower hp cars. For example, broken-in engine with an oil change is slightly over an 8% gain, which would result in over +80 hp in a 1000 hp car, but only +8 hp in a 100 hp car. That gain in your Viper is reasonable...eventually it will stabilize at about 583 hp or so when the engine gets old.

Ok good, thanks for that info. I though the HP would get lower and lower the more i used the car, so I stopped using it. I don't anyone that has driven the ZZII would want to stop driving that.

F.Zamataki: No. I said my Mugen S2000. The Spoon Sports S2000 peaks at 444-horsepower. Such an odd number for the maximum horsepower of a car. I'd like to see that go up or down one horsepower just to get off that funny lookin' number.

Thio: I see now about the signature. I'll go into the edit profile thing and change as soon as I get done with this post. I didn't notice that little side-effect. And it's no big deal to me anywho. I just thought it'd be fun to list to my favorite cars on there. I should make an actual signature some time soon instead. Of course, I might still include a few of my favorite cars in there but the ons I really like. Those being the two RX-7s and the Mugen S2000. Spoon Sports S2000 is great too.

GilesGuthrie: Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. Just as long as my poor RX-7 Type-RS doesn't lose any more power than it already did. I think there's another small mod I can do like a tuned rom or full engine balancing that will bring it back up the few points it lost. Where is I might have to take something off the Viper GTS but even at 594-horsepower which is where I think it is. It's still a perfectly tame beast to me. -- and like I told Thio. I understand now about the signature as I see what it does now. It shall be taken care of.

I was just thinking...what kind of super oil gives you a 5% hp gain? IRL, that might be possible if your POS car only makes 60 hp and it has dirty oil. Then it would be a +3 hp gain...but otherwise it seems way outta range. Then again for 250 cr, which is almost a 1 to 1 exchange rate for credits and USD, it better damn be very good I guess...or maybe the GT Auto guys detail the car too? Because a Jiffy Lube oil change that comes with tire pressure check, fluids check, and synthetic oil is at most $70...

If you are worried about having to get a new RX-7 RS, it is not hard at all. You can either buy it or win it from the American Championship in the Amateur League.

Or is it one of those cars that you say, "Oh, that's a keepsake. I won (insert race name here) with this baby. I'll never get rid of this!"

I have lots of those. :D
