Maybe this is a lame, newbie question asked many times before, but if GT can use Porsches in the game under Ruf's name, why can't they use Ferraris and Lambos under the Koenig or Hamann name? Heck, it would be a great way to get some serious BMW racers in the game too.

Ugh - nasty shot.

I've seen some speculation that Porsche were quite happy to see Ruf's products get into GT3 - it should be noted, though, that Ruf's reworking is so thorough that they are legally considered a manufacturer in Germany, rather than a 'tuner' the way Koenig or Hamann are.

Ruf considered a manufacturer .... :odd: I wonder if Gemballa is considered a manufactuer than too? They put more juice into Porsches then Ruf does. May I ask what the "legal" difference between Hamann and Ruf?

doesnt that count for companies like AMG, i think that in he game there should independent tuners, than just in house such as veilside, jun, tommy kaira etc.

the posted picture at the top is the that was posted in a tuning magazine called GREATSTREETPERFORMANCE, it's a BMW M3 HaMaNN 2003 KIt, you can actually see the m3 sign on the egine thrue a plexiglass plate in the hood:D, it's 538BHP machine (at 6800RPM) with 521NM torque (at 4350RPM) :D
If you want an exact of that one its going to cost you $23.500 excl the purchse costs of the m3 itself.

RUF is a tuningcompany especially for porsche, they have agreement with eachother. This is not the case with the red horse and the Lambo.

That BMW would be really sharp without that cheesy-assed generic looking hood bulge and a less agressive spoiler. Other than that that cars is bad ass.

Yeah, that BMW is a 'lil too tricked out for me too. I've seen better from Hamann, but I thought I'd post an example of their work anyways. Brabus is another big time tuner, but they only work with Mercedes.

I just wish GT could find a loop-hole with Ferraris and Lambos the way they have Porsche. Don't get me wrong, I like the fact that you have to work your way through the game with Vitzs and Lancers, but the minute I had the credits to buy a Pagani ... :O

The problem is, if GT is filled with after-market tuner models the tune shop becomes useless. There isn't much to tune on a Koenig Ferrari F50. Of course, there isn't much to tune on a Gillet Race Car either. :indiff:

These cars are also license to appear exclusively in certain game titles only. Like Project Gothem has the Enzo, and Need For Speed has Lamborghinis so it might be for that reason.

PD could pay these game developers for the right to use these cars, but I don't think they are going to. From what I heard they are going to get exclusive rights to some F1 cars so they wont be left behind.:D

But this is what I don't understand. PGR has the Opel Speedster, Vanquish and Corvette Z06, but those cars aren't exclusive to that game. As we know, the Speedster, ZO6 and Vanquish can also be found in GT3. The Ferarri F50, 360 Modena and Porsche 911 are in PGR, but they're also in NFS-HP2, which held my attention for about a week. So exactly how exclusive are these deals? It sounds like for the right price, GT3 could use various Ferarri, Porsche etc... models. And you'd think with their no damage policy, those manufactuers would be more apt to sign on with GT.

Is GT just penny pinching?

In a word yes, but it makes good sense. Whould you give money to your competition?

I also think there is a problem with these manufactures having their cars displayed being lesser than the other. These car manufactures have big egos and they don't what some video game ruining their reputation as a superior automobile. I don't think there is a good working relationship with these automobile manufactures to begin with.

I don't know how exactly the deals work. I'm sure someone will come along and set us both straight about that topic. All I know it's big business and thinking about it makes my head ache. :p

Oh, by the way Ferrari is spelled, well. I sometimes misspell it too, and I can never remember to add the stupid s in Porche.

this is just speculation, but perhaps its the budget.

think about it, they only have X amount to invest into the product. i bet the licensing fees for the cars already in the game cost a bundle. development cost for a game of this magnitude isnt cheap either.

manufacturers that produce items with the prancing horse logo pay a huge premium to ferrari. NFS by EA only has a handful of manufacturers compared to GT series, so i assume they have the luxury of buying license from lamborghini/vw, ferrari, mclaren, etc.

Thats what i hate! VW and Audi own Lambo, their cars are in the game.. but no lambo?? i hate that.. selfish prics! the fact that they own such a fine manufacturer allready is bad enough..

Then again it could be due to when Audi/VW diddnt own lambo and they sold their rights to EA for NSF1.. that should have expired some time.. or maybe it doesnt.. anyway, if theres one good thing Audi can do for Lambo (besides creating nice interiors and Alloy chassis's for them) its get them a licence with GTA like they do.

So many R's, but so little of Ferrari to go around. :D I only remember the S in Porsche because of Nietzsche.

I don't know if I like the "looking bad" explanation either; UNLESS they feel PD would intentionally make European models look inferior on screen. Ever notice how Mitsubishi, Toyota, Mazda etc... are all capitalized in the garage, while all other manufacturer names are normal cased? :odd:

BTW, isn't Bugatti now owned by VW? Ohhhh how I dream of racing a McLaren F1 LM against a Veyron 16/4. You know the programmers at GT do too.

well i think the japanese company names are actually spelt with capitals in the first place, like BMW, and Bmw, even though bmw actually stands for something, which makes it abit different. I wonder if porshe actually "gave" RUF to polyphony because they couldnt "give" them the actual Porshe name. that would change the way we should look at porshe then.

First. Yes VW owns Bugatti, hence the "W" engine being in both the bugatti and the Photon is it? Anyway, the reason ferrari and porsche arn't in GT is because Electronic Arts (EA) has soul lincesncing on Ferrari, so unless Sony buys out EA neither Ferrari's nor Porsches will be featured in the GT series, hense the induction of the "RUF'S" which is in essense a way around that technicality.

If this is true, how can PGR use the Enzo, 360 and F50 models in their game? Obviously, these licenses are not solely exclusive. Either EA owns the right to use the gaming likeness of Ferrari products and leases out to PGR, or Ferrari retains that right and directly leases their likeness to both companies.

Ferrari is not stupid, so I would think it's the latter. They don't want EA being able to re-sell the Ferrari likeness to anybody willing to cough up the cash. It seems like -- and maybe I'm wrong -- Ferrari has a price, but PD is not willing to pay it. Why that is, I have no idea. GT3 alone probably sold more units than the entire NFS series combined.
