From alot of reliable sources, motortrend included, gt4 is said to have 300 parameters. But on igncar/mailbag, there was a article saying gt4 had only 30 parameters but didnt Kaz say gt4 would calculate 4-500 parameters? I believe so.

dude, don't let Hd get to you, he's a retarded GT4 basher who's mom prolly won'tlet em buy both a PS2 because he already has that Nintendo Xbox thingy :sly:

It's always possible that the "30" was a typo. Even if Forza does have the same amount of physics cps, PD is more experienced and will do more with the 60 calculations per second they have, plus a lot of those calculations in forza are probably there to help the controls feel more percise at 30fps since that stupid 180 control refresh rate thing is a bunch of crap.

what are parameters? (sorry... I'm stupid :dunce: )
Probably he means simulated data that have influence on the physics model, like : speed, downforce, torque, rpm, hp, rotation speed of each wheel, etc.

For 'Grand Prix Legends' users did develop a replay analyser. This great program (for PC) allows you to graph all available data for one lap. In GPL (developped in 1997!!) there is e.g.
- tyre pressure
- tyre temperature (which goes up when you spin, so that pressure becomes too high and the car harder to control!)
- engine temperature (too long at high rpm can make your engine blow).

Such a program for GT4 would be interesting.

I've been looking around and it's hihgly unlikely all those sources are wrong. Gamespot and IGN among others, I certainly think the 30 parameters thing is just a typo.

No: Kaz said, that the physics are calculated 300 times per second. that's all, nothing more and nothing less.

If enthusia has 300 parameters then gt4 should aswell.

Well yes obviously, but the point is that the guy on IGN said 300 parameters wasn't practical so it won't be done, but now we have comfirmation that developers are in fact developing racing games with such numbers, factually stating the contrary to IGN's claim. Pair that up with the fact that every source says GT4 has 300 parameters and guess what? GT4 has 300 parameters, and Hd is a clueless moron. Of course his reasoning skills are at a microscopic level so don't expect him to cave on this bit of information, but common sense and Kazunori himself claim he's wrong and that whoever replied to that mail at IGN didn't know what he was talking about (woa, that's a first right :dunce: )

No. Physics are calculated 60 times per second. Kaz said he would like to do them at 300 for GT5 though.

That's right sven, the amount of parameters is 300.

Who actually gives a flying crap? As long as it feels good, it could have 2 for all I care.

Dont be your usual self...... With 300 parameters, there's alot of info put into the cars that allow them to handle realistically. Look at the fact gt4's cars can get track times that are nearly perfect on real courses. There's alot of car info from different manufactures in gt4.

This is what I find funny cobra, it's as if you have a GT4 phrase book, things you spout off anytime anyone says anything, and rather then give a decent argument, you say the same crap time in, time out. I mean what you said didn't actually tell me anything, it just sounded like the kind of crap my little brother would say "oh but fifa 2005 is better then 2004 because you can do a super ultra banana kick, and it has 40 new kicking parameters, and 60 new teams". So whys it better? "uhhhh it has 60 more teams!!"

Bad comparsion. If I was hyping gt4 solely on the amount of cars, you could use that but I'm not. Do you understand that parameters are basically the amount of info put in the cars? With that amount of info, gt4 should be quite the sim for a console.

No my point is that you really don't know what your on about. You spout 300 off as if it means something, when infact, it means nothing. TBH 300 sounds abit...over the top, care to show me some proof? I thought that even sony said it was 30, but this is how I see it. When they say parameters, they must mean things like car height, lengh, blah blah blah, not 300 on just the handling :P

Did you get that from ign? If so, dont believe it because they mislead too much.

Each model is defined by approximately 300 parameters, pulled together from manufacturer data, published sources, and Polyphony measurements. Holes in the database are filled through calculations and modeling, based on similar vehicles.

Phew, for a moment there I actually thought you mean it was that all 300 parameters, were based on the handling of the cars.

Other factors are realized in the game to make it a realistic game ;) and you reply to quick =P

Yeah thats what I remember, I don't see the point of calcuating the physics 300 times a second as you wouldn't see the difference. It would just waste CPU power.

In an article with a visit to PD and an interview with KY, i read from KY words that in GT4 they improved a lot of parameters, including physics theories. In relation with these physics formulas about movement, they used all known theories and, important, create empirically new formulas that there are not in any physics book...
I suppose that they did not make a Nobel award in Physics, only adjust formulas to the game, but it is amazing.

This is the reason too about do not use real car damage. KY confirms that to this, they need a lot of extra calculations to obtain a real and credible damage effect. About the makers licenses about no-damages, he confirmed that it is an urban legend.
