ABS-off affects physics?

I used the search but couldn't find anything, so I decided to make a new thread...

So recently I've been attempting to gold the AMG Driving Academy with my newly attained DFGT. I got gold on the first stage of Beginner reasonably easily, but frustratingly, I've only managed to get 2:23:405 (Gold is 2:21:00) I looked up a couple of ids on Youtube, and found a guy who was sliding all over the place, taking corners at higher speeds than I was able to get. I read the description and saw that he had ABS off. I usually keep it on 1 (With all other aids off) and was shocked at the lack of grip that appeared with ABS off. IIUC ABS only affects the wheels contact with the road under braking, but this sliding happens even when I take corners at full speed! So, does ABS affect anything else?

The ABS in GT5 affects car's stability under braking. It's like a real time wheel by wheel automatic brake balance adjuster. With it off it's easier to unsettle the car when braking and induce a drift. It should be noted though that ABS at 1 is propably the fastest way to drive in GT5 so i wouldn't go as far as saying that ABS makes you slower in that even (i know that i had ABS on when i golded it). Only place where ABS off gives you an advantage is in the NASCAR events because turning it off also turns off the active stability managment.

ABS, in this game, affects how fast you can go round a corner, usually the higher this value the more of a straight line your car will travel in. Example I used ABS 2 for that cone slalom (Licence ib-3) to move in a straightish line and ABS 0 for test ic-6 for high speed cornering, everything from 4-10 isn't really needed though.
