StarLight Garage presents the her first Christmas suggestion (all suggestions in December), the Spanish Acciona Dakar.
The first ever Electric Vehicle who will compete in the Dakar Rally one of the most difficult rally, for human and car who must complete 9.000 km until the finish.

I will be surprised if this car could finish the Dakar Rally, but if it could win would an awesome win! We have to wait until 17th of January 2015.

The latest entry in the Dakar Rally is a car that no one would have ever thought possible. Spanish civil engineering company Acciona is entering the first-ever, all-electric car into the 5600-mile endurance race through the unforgiving desert.

The car was built from scratch and is powered by a 300-horsepower electric motor using four lithium-ion battery packs totaling 140 kWh. To put that in perspective, we’re talking the same power that you’d find in two Tesla Model S’. They figure that it will be more than enough to get the car from one 200-mile checkpoint to the next where batteries can be swapped out.

It’s possible that the Acciona entry could win, but it would be impressive if the car simply finishes the grueling race. There were 431 entries this year and only half made the end. This really would be a win for electric vehicles if the car cross the finish line, regardless of its placing.

Other cars will be chugging down around 2,200 gallons of fuel while the Acciona hums along on electric power. It’ll still have to conquer temperatures as high as 122 degrees Fahrenheit through rocks and sand to make it to the end. We’ll see if this is the electric car that could starting on the 4th of January.
