Hey guys, I got problem on my 2 year old Acer Aspire 1810TZ laptop since I can't switch it on today, with or w/o battery and w/ AC adapter (which has it's own mood whether it want to recharge my battery or not). I also notice that the battery indicator on the bottom part of the laptop doesn't lights up (pictured below with blue light) when I tried to switch it on which is Quite Unusual, since it would flash few times if I need to recharge the battery or plug in the AC adapter to switch it on.

It might be cause by not using for since last 2 weeks ago. I sort of recharge it to 50-60% at that time and tried to fully charge it but the AC adapter has the above problem.

I'm thinking whether just to buy a new AC adapter since this laptop is not my main laptop anymore but I'm afraid I will just waste money on it or should I just remove the HDD and use it as an external HDD?

Thank you for the help!

I would not spend any money on it. It sounds like a problem that's complicated and costly to repair. Just break it apart for fun.

I've been using an Aspire One for several years. It's not great, but it's been durable and gets the job done.

The problem is most likely in the AC adapter. The plug can get loose over time, and it's likely not charging the computer. You can take the laptop with you to the store to test fit for a new adapter while buying. If the light doesn't go on while you're trying out a new adapter, then it's something else. Replacing sockets is difficult, as most shops don't carry them, even though they should be simple to replace.

I'd like to add that he could take the laptop apart and hang the motherboard on the wall. I'm personally thinking of doing that once I get some bad motherboards.

Considering the "moods" he says the adapter suffers from, I'm pretty sure it's that. I have two Acers, and the adapter cord that plugs into the laptop gets loose over time. I've had to replace adapters on one unit twice.

Or... you could simply buy a new adapter... adapter... and splice it into the cord of the old adapter.

Hi mate. That's what I would do to it, also uninstall the RAM module(s) and put them on sale. :)

What if the laptop isn't a registered donor?

The problem is

...

You have an Acer.

Sorry, had to do it

 Having an Aspire One, I cannot argue this statement.

Why would Acer be a Troll?

Yeah, I was planning to buy a new charger/AC adapter only so that it can just live on without batteries. I always have to manoeuvre the charger around or press around the cord that connects to the charger box thing so that it would able to charge the laptop.

But, would the 9 GBP worth it to spend on the new charger? (which I linked on the OP)

You can repair the old one if you know how to splice wires. That's what I did with my third (!!!) charger. But it's probably safer to buy a new charger.

I was just joking around with you, nothing serious.

I've had a lot of friends who had Acer laptops and they went berserk on them after a year of two. That's why I've stayed away from Acer and camped the ASUS base myself.

Acer Ferrari Netbook is more of a troll.

How can something so slow be called ferrari?

At least Asus's VX6 Lamborghini Netbook is somewhat fast but man oh man their VX-7 is the real deal.

Hahahaha, that laptop was my first laptop which was a present from my father 4 years ago. I thought it was the smooth laptop at that time, since my previously-owned brother laptop was a 2005/6 15 inch Acer laptop. It was laggy and frustrating to use.
