Publisher in 00-heaven - maybe even shaken and stirred - as it's granted rights to develop 007 games on all platforms
Activision has been awarded the James Bond license by MGM Interactive and EON Productions Ltd., the publisher nabbing all the rights to develop and publish 007 games. The licensing deal runs through to 2014, with the Bond rights reportedly becoming exclusive to Activision in September 2007.
Unsurprisingly, there's no announcement on new Bond titles accompanying this news, but it is mentioned that Activision's rights cover development for current- and next-generation consoles, PC and handhelds, covering all bases. In addition, it's said the publisher gets to develop games based on James Bond movies and non-movie based titles.
"James Bond is the ultimate action movie franchise, and we look forward to establishing a long-term relationship with MGM and EON," said Mike Griffith, president and CEO of Activision Publishing Inc.
"The James Bond franchise creates tremendous global expansion opportunities for Activision as it is one of the few video game licenses that appeals equally to domestic and international consumers. James Bond storylines are rich with style, drama and action, all of which lend themselves perfectly to developing extraordinary games that capture the thrill of being the most celebrated secret agent in the world."
