Acura has announced plans to introduce the new ILX endurance race car at the New York Auto Show.
Developed in-house, the race car will compete in the NASA Endurance Series and the company says their primary goal is an outright victory in the 25 Hours of Thunder Hill.
While this is no easy task, the car features an aerodynamic body kit that includes a front splitter, slender mirrors and a prominent rear wing. The model also has a race-tuned suspension, auxiliary lights as well as "racing tires and wheels."
Since the model is a race car, the interior has been gutted and replaced with racing seats, a roll cage and a quick disconnect steering wheel - among other things.
Acura was coy on performance specifications but confirmed the car's engine has been equipped with forged pistons and connecting rods, racing cams, an optimized air intake and "blueprinted" fuel injectors. The car also has a lightweight battery, HPD engine mounts and a high-performance exhaust system. Other notable highlights include a lightweight flywheel and a racing clutch.
