This is suppose to be a private testing of a new Acura LMP at Homestead Speedway. I really can't tell what team is testing the car because of the poor quality of the video but the video does have great sound. In my opinion the Honda Performance Development 3.4 V8 sounds just like I imagined a Honda V8 to sound...........almost sounds like a hint of VTEC technology in the LMP.

Agreed. WICKED engine sound. I just wished we could see some extra camera views of this bad boy. There will now be two LMPs with wonderful engine sounds (the Porsche RS Spyder the other), not to mention Acura's intent to get plenty of Le Mans love. Acura will have to work for it if they want to participate in the mid-June classic (Le Mans). I may have a FACT OR FICTION lined up for this thing when Sebring rolls around. But it's a nice video of what should be a great competitor. I do hope Acura will have to adjust to the sort of learning curve in sportscar racing whereas cars aren't as reliable in racing competition once they get into real racing. You don't want another Panoz LMP-01 or a Mazda RX-792P in the prototype ranks, you know? Here's to Acura- knock 'em dead!

Fortunately, Acura's learning curve isn't going to be nearly as steep as, say, Cadillac's.

Their engine, as I understand it, is heavily based on the Honda Indy lump, and they're going with proven current gen chassis; Highcroft and Andretti Green with Courage C65's and Fernandez with Lola B05/40's. So, that'll be a pretty reliable combination, I think.

ZOMG that's like porn for the ears! This Porsche/Acura battle is gonna rock. :D

There won't be a Acura/ Porche battle, just Acuras out front and Porsches following!:sly:

Acura LMP is rolling sex!

Whoever the driver was, sounded like he was having a heck of fun.

The problem with that theory is a man from Shaker Heights, Ohio by the name of Roger Penske.

The Penske Porsche's remain THE juggernaught in the class, and unless the Acura lump produces some tremendous power over the AER turbo four and the Judd V8, then the Acura cars won't have too much advantage over the existing Lolas and Courages.

Also, keep in mind that the Radical SR9's have shown incredible speed (speed parallel to the Porsches) so if their teams get the cars straightened out, there's a big fight.

Plus, Mazda and BK Motorsports still haven't announced the replacement chassis for their Courage C65. (I have to retract my earlier statement, as Highcroft and AGR aren't using C65's, but the new LMP2 Courage).

The Acura LMP should have plenty of power to play with the Penske boys. 2007 from what I understand is pretty much a developement season for Acura so I wouldn't expect too much from them but in the same sense I do see Acura coming out the box just as fast as seasoned teams. Honda Performance Developement has their work cut out for them when it comes to 2008 because I hear they are planning an attack in the LMP1 class as well as maybe getting an invite to the 24 Hours of Le Mans..........actually is there any word on if Acura has received an invite for the 2007 24 Hours?

Another thing to keep in mind is that the RS Spyder has been redesigned! A totally re-worked body. Porsche knows the Japanese take racing seriously (in official factory capacities, that is). This could be interesting.

I seem to notice an ongoing trend in LMP2 that has started with the Judd engine. seems the Louder the engine is, the faster the car is. that being said, the car sounds awesome. can't wait for Sebring.

I am really excited to see the LM P2 class looks from a competition stand point. This past year was a development year for the Porsche Spyder and still it showed to be the dominant car in class - against a lack lustre field but this looks like a good grid in '07, and I only see a great year ahead. By the way, who will be attending Sebring in March?

You mentioned Cadillac, Layla's Keeper. I made this very old thread which shown some of my views on how far Cadillac could have gone had their program actually been successful: < https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61944 >. I just hope Acura can have some success here. The Prototype 2 class has been very successful since its inception around 2001 or so. I think during one 24 Hours of Le Mans, someone mentioned that this whole Prototype 2 deal should be abandoned. But look at what it has done for most teams and manufacturers. It's provided a low-cost alternative so that teams can get into the prototype ranks without having big-budget LMP team money and resources. There has even been a few P2 upsets of P1 teams including an Audi near-miss at Miller Motorsports Park earlier this year vs. a hard-charging Porsche RS Spyder.

Here's some discussion questions now. What are the chances (out of 100%) that Acura...

1.) ...will have a highly successful debut season?
2.) ...gets the P2 championship in their first season?
3.) ...upsets Porsche in P2?
4.) ...and their prototype becomes the next Mazda RX-792P, Panoz LMP07 (in other words, a horribly unsuccessful race car)?

Have at it!

1.) Yes. Acura will have a successful season.
2.) Nopers. Porsche win the championship.
3.) Err... at a given event the Acura will win the class but I wouldn't classify that as an upset.
4.) I think the car will have success and will not be horrible by any means.

ALMS may as well change the name of the P2 class to P2 Indy Car Series. Yeah, not so funny...

If that's the case then the Mazda should be way out in front.

After the Petit LeMans my left ear still gets an occasional odd ring to it off and on.

Hopefully things start looking better for them. I remember being at Sebring when Mazda announced their participation in the series. Everyone involved, and fans of the series (myself included) were psyched at the idea that Mazda was joining the class and were the ones kicking off an explosion. Considering the quality of the "MG" (now known as) AER motors be they in Lola, Courage, or Radical, the Porsche effort (more specifically the Penske-Porsche effort, who knows what other privateers will do), and now Acura's entry, Mazda had better get their act together. The Courage-Mazda has been a less than impressive entry in the series, and even though the Acura is unproven (let's all try to remember that) Honda Motorsports are going to be taking this very seriously. If the Japanese are big on motorsports, like someone mentioned in this thread, Mazda better stop disappointing. Who knows, maybe the combination of Courage and Mazda was the problem and Mazda are trying to find a better fit in the chassis department, but they have really disappointed. They put flyers on the windows of every car parked in the general parking area outside Sebring in hopes of drawing in fans before and after the announcement. I think they might have blown the budget on that... lol/

Heck, Mazda sponsored the Petit LeMans with the CX-7 and I expected them to put out a spectacular performance with their name plastered everywhere, but instead it was all noise and no speed.

I have high hopes for Mazda to get things shaped up and Acura to blaze in strong and the two of them to really challenge Porsche. I would love to see a series where the points asre so close it comes down to the last race instead of knowing who has won before the Petit LeMans.

Of course, that brings up the "can anyone beat Audi" question...

Sounds bloody brilliant! Too bad they didn't wick it around the banking through NASCAR 3 and 4, that would have been mint. Also, that rooster tail it had going down the backstretch was intense!

First off, I'm a little confused as to why everyone is talking about "the Acura effort". Folks, it's a customer engine program. There's no dedicated car coming, only two Courages and a Lola powered by Acura engines.

Secondly, the Mazda has a class win at Mid-Ohio to its credit, and was one of the quicker cars in the category until the Courage C65 chassis joined the Lucchini and WR hybrid on the list of obsolescence. The Courages that will be competing in 2007 with the Acura teams are the new C70 LMP2.

Finally, LMP2 upsets are now illegal according to the 2007 spec ACO rulebook. Article 19 of the most recent revised edition of the ACO rulebook states that LMP1 cars are to maintain a 1.5% performance advantage above LMP2 cars at all times.

To be fair, the Mazda didn't exactly make it to the finish line at the end. ;) But a great run by that team nonetheless.

I'm glad you mentioned that race. I'll always remember it since it was on my graduation day. It was a nice suprise to see Dyson finish one-two that day.

1. I see nothing less than a successfull debut
2. Far reach
3. Acura will be on podium some race in 07
4. Honda Performance Development has excellent research and development experience from IRL so not likely

Yeah, but I'm asking for what percent chance do you think my questions will happen. For example, is it a 100% chance Acura will have a highly-successful debut? And stuff like that?

What are your percentages that the different things will occur for Acura (view my questions from Page 1 and give us some percentages of what will happen)? Here was the last bit of Acura sportscar racing involvement I can recall:

Look at this: http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1992/Sebring-1992-03-21-048.jpg

This was the Acura Spice GTP Lights in the early 1990s days of IMSA. The heralded driver was former (then) CART commentator for ESPN, Parker Johnstone. It's my only memory of P. Johnstone as he was an analyst alongside Paul Page during Champ Car coverage on ESPN in the 1990s and early 2000.

Carry on, good people.
