Hey, all:

Adobe popped up and told me that I should update to the latest version of Flash Player, so I said "OK". Now I can't see any Flash videos such as YouTube, etc. YouTube tells me I have Javascript off (it isn't) or that I have an outdated version of Flash Player (apparently I don't, since I just updated it).

I went back and DLed the Adobe uninstaller (which they recommended), ran it, then installed the Adobe ActiveX controller (which they recommended), and then reinstalled the new version (which they recommended), and restarted (which they recommended).

No joy.

I can go get an archive version of Flash Player 8, I guess. Does anybody else have this problem or know the solution? Thanks.

It's Flash 9.something (whatever they call current) on WinXP 5.1 SP2.
 
I'm not sure how to fix your problem at the moment but, what might be helpful is what browser you are using.
 
I think I had this problem a few months ago as well. I think I never got to resolved the problem, but somehow, it resolved itself!!! :D Just use Opera (or IE) and play the Youtube videos from there. After awhile, your Firefox should be able to watch the Youtube videos as well. :) (well I don't know if that makes sense but, I'm guessing if you watch the video on another browser, the flash player should reset to the default setting or something.....)

Actually, that's the version I updated to that killed it.

However, after poking around some more, I updated my Java version, and now it appears to work. Thanks for the advice, everyone.
 
"All users having problems with Firefox 2.0.0.x and Flash (which you weren't) are strongly advised to update" which is what lead to your problems.

Strange.

And typical.
 
I'm having a problem like this too. Embedded videos work fine, but going to needforspeed.com, GT5P's official site, YouTube, etc, I'm asked to update to Flash Player 9, which I did here. But still nothing. So I found this tester, which says I'm okay. Next I checked if I had the latest Java, which I didn't, so I got it here. Nothing yet. Now I think I should run the uninstaller, but it also says it also unintalls ActiveX. Will installing Flash 9 afterwards re-install ActiveX also? Is there anything I should do beforehand to prepare for this uninstall? Any help is very much appreciated!

I'm using Internet Explorer, by the way.

I know double-posting is discouraged, but I really need this bumped. It's been a few weeks since I've been able to view videos without having to embed them somewhere first, not to mention the sites that run off Flash. Such a hassle. Please help! :nervous:
 
Uh.... get a new browser? 💡

Seriously, why use IE? I have been using Firefox ever since I could remember, and got to say its better in every way in terms performance, interface, maintenance and usability. 👍 But if you still want to use IE, why not you try to update it? If there is no update for IE, just install another browser and watch youtube or whatever it is on that browser, and do your other work on IE until there is a new update available.

I did the same thing last time, and before I knew it I could watch youtube again! :dopey:
 
Not to be rude or anything, but that didn't help at all. I've never had any problems with IE, so it was odd that Flash would just suddenly stop working. Not to mention you said earlier in this topic that you were having the same problem with Firefox, but not with IE. In desperation, I went ahead and ran the uninstaller and re-installed Flash 9, which worked. I was hesitant about doing it because I don't know much at all about the technical side of computers, and if it didn't re-install ActiveX, I'd be in an even bigger mess. Thanks anyways.
 
I get some a pop-up like this on some sites (ESPN is notorious for this since I updated):

It's totally stupid and I feel like bitching about it; whatever happen to the days when using Flash that wasn't the latest version still worked? I feel like I spend more time updating all the add-ons rather than using the computer, since Adobe controls everything Microsoft doesn't.

At least Microsoft lets me surf the 'net while I update things.
