i know there already are many ads by the tracks in gt, but do you guys think it's possible to BUY a billboard in gt4, so, every GT fan will see your ad when they playing the game, it's pretty interesting, isn't it? and make this game more "realistic" :) you can now do REAL business in game world :D

That would be fun, then I could buy myself a billboard on Midfield that says "ME" on it. :dopey:

I doubt that that will be in the game. PD tends to me more on the simply side and usually stick to the plan pretty well.

But yea that would be really cool.

i doubt those companies ever paid for the ads in gt, may be they are just free offers from PD, to make the game more real, so, they might be happy to give you a place if you really show them some dollars :)

they'll probably just have the normal adds that are found on the real tracks. and maybe a few things PD wants to promote. 👍

Perhaps the advertisements were part of the liscensing agreement. Anyway, they add a kind of realism to it.

i want to buy one at Fuji: "Tsukuba is better" :dopey: :sly:

Jordan could get GTPlanet.net one. That would be great advertising :D

I'm sure its hella expensive cause there are so many millions of copies sold....

PD doesn't realize this is a good way to make money:) they just need to add an option to let the players choose which kind of ads they want to see, the real ads or the fancy ones, some tracks especially N'ring are so long that they may add thousands of ads, it's a lot of money :D

I would be so cool to have a GTP billboard, similar to the one at the top of this page on a track.

Overall I think GT has the best billboards because it tries its best to get the adverts that are actually on the track......the real ones! look at NY.....all of them are real ones that are there. I don't know of any other racing game that has loads of real brands, to do with motorsport or not, represented under one game.

Look at Forza...the billboards are not the real track ones.....it just repeats FORZA, ROAD & TRACK, MICROSOFT GAME STUDIOS......those adverts are really rubbish...clearly they cannot be bothered to go out and get permission for the real boards!!!

if i were pd id let him have one for nothing, after all gtplanet creates and sustains a huge amount of interest in gran turismo games. someone should ask em nicely

you mean to tell me that none of you think that castol, pennzoil, brembo, pirelli, arta, bridgestone etc didnt pay to have their nems prominently emblazoned on various billboards on the game.

you think PD just put thier nems in for free? for a sense of reaslism? lets be real.

You people disgust me. There is an enough abvertisements already in this world. Some of you complain there is too much, such with IGN, and now you want more, and in your video games? What are you people on? Dope?

Well.....................

I agree, although some adverts in the game might make it seem more realistic I think its a little overboard in GT. I'd really like to see a more natural track without bill boards every 5 metres ;), be interesting to see whether the 'Ring survives intact...

As for brands not paying, why would they pay? PD probably went to them for permission to use their names in GT (Well atleast the first GT) part of the agreement & persuasion might have been promotion on the virtual circuits. Companies weren't desperate to get themselves in games, as was evident in GT 1 & 2. Only now are attitudes starting to shift.

hey, theres nothing wrong with dope, don't blame dope, its crack you want to blame, dope has medicinal propeties and is known to reduce Stress and even out blood pressure, crack is known to make you... cracked out i guess.

as for ads, i don't like seeing them when i drive IRL, why would i want to look at them while i Race, i'd rather be surrounded by a lush countryside, a detailed innner-city or scores of car-loving fans than a bunch of billboards.

What dope evens out blood pressrue? Sedatives work great, but those can be legal. Of course, I'm asking what illegal drug lowers blood pressure, because I don't think there are any.

Advertising is the base of sconomics. Whether it is through word-of-mouth or a TV advert in the Superbowl.
What many people disagree with is intrusive adverts. Such as pop-ups and in your face adverts. I personally would prefer a good realistic billboard than some dodgy 2D animations in the crowd, and in some cases where a crowd shoudln't be.

Dope lowers blood pressure?...Better get my dad some :)

ok, i'm not 100% certain on the blood pressure thing, but you can find anything about Medical grade Cannibus(which is legal, its just not over the counter and its difficult to attain a prescription, at the same time its very similar to street grade, only street grade has a chance of being impure) that you want here: http://www.medmjscience.org/
(mods, sorry for the off-topicness of this post)

back on topic, basis of Economics or not, i still don't like looking at an advertisement. hence why my own website does not have and will never have any Banners and i've made that promise to my regulars.

So what would you do if your site grew to such a size that it is impossible to sustain it on your own income alone. Then would you consider banners, in the same taste as Jordan has (Very discrete)? Or woudl you begin deleting parts of it over time?

at that point i would open an account with Cafepress.com and sell T-Shirts, mugs and misc items with my Sites logo/slogan on them. as a matter of fact, many of my users are pushing me to open the account soon. as well i would have a paypal donate button located on the main page in a location that can be easily found, but not interfering with layout.

they have the choice to support the site then, besides, if i grew to the size of GTP i would have done something wrong(no offence to GTP, its a great site, but my site is designed to be a smaller, close knit community site with only a few close friends)

Well it is nice to see you have things worked out. The only flaw I can see is how much are your friends willing to spend on T-shirt/mugs. And no matter how good a site is. Very few people just donate money to one.

Anyways, hope things go well with your site.

Didn't some executive say that GT is basically an advert for cars, like a giant showroom that you can see in your living room. Also doesn't NY have a load of brand name stores scattered about?

Having a manufacturers car in GT4 is very rewarding.....as you said it is like having a showroom in your living room.....the game can actually encourage people to buy the car after being able to see it in all its stock colours and also test drive in on some of the most demanding cources on earth!

Doubt you would see that. I bet those car and racing product companies you see on those boards on the sides of the tracks pay alot of money for that space. Plus it reinforces the brand of those makes in the game. That is huge for marketting and PR types. Letting average schmoes like ourselves on those boards wouldn't fly, not to mention how ugly some of the ads would and could be. Also not to mention the time and resources it would take staff at PD to approve and deal with getting avrage schmoes into the game.

Bottomline: Ain't gonna happen.

But they wouldn't let people apply for them. They would personally choose sites due to their contribution to the Gran Turismo community. This may only be allowed in certain online 'rooms' where all the tracks used might have special add boards especially for them.

But it wouldn't be Manhattan without those adverts. If they won't there not only would it look very odd but it wouldn't be realistic. I live in Manhattan and walk some of the streets in the GT4 NY circuit daily. PD did a very good job capturing what those streets, Times Square and Columbus circle included, look like.

I could maybe see something vaguely like that in online modes but not in the offline game. What would be the point or benefit for PD and the GT series to have average schmoes putting up adverts on the sides of the tracks?
