Advice for someone who's finally online.

Hi folks!

I'm a long time GT player, but not a hardcore player by any stretch of the imagination (I don't think I've ever done an endurance race). I like GT more for the simulation of driving different vehicles, not so much for the racing. The racing is only there to get money to buy and play with more cars - know what I mean?

So, now that my life story is out of the way, the great news is I finally got my PS3 online and have a few questions while I wait an eternity for 6 separate updates to download...

1) My download speed was measured by the PS3 as 666kbps - is this fast enough for lag free racing?
2) What are some of the best updates relating to my playing style, ie. what should I do first to take advantage of my new and improved GT5?
3) What, in your experiences, are some of the dos and don'ts of online racing, in terms of etiquette, etc. I don't want to be an a$$hole!

Thanks for any advice. I'm really looking forward to discovering a whole new side to the game which, in single player only, has been a little disappointing so far. YAY PROPER BROADBAND!

3. Try finding a room with SRF off, they tend to have better drivers.
Keep your racing clean. Read the guidelines of gentlemanly on-line racing found some where on this site. (I'll look for the link now) Here it is.
 
Yes to your first question. The are some good points and some bad points. First of tune all your cars to the max and use the Power Limiter to DE-tune them so you'll be able to compete. I myself feel the Power Limiter is a cheat due to you can lower the Horse Power of a car but have insane Tourqe. To me that's takes away from true driving. For your final question, Stay away from glitching. You'll find a lot fewer glitching rooms but they are there. For the rest you'll just have to find out. I wont give that away.
 
yes it will be fine with that speed with players from your own country or surrounding countries, May lag up with distant country players. Be courteous when possible like don't use people as brakes at the corners or try to shove your car up the inside where its not going to fit. I try to be courteous, last night i got rammed twice by the same asshat so i caught up and payed him out by ramming him at a slow corner. he then proceeded to text assault me after the race and I explained it was payback and he said "for what?" so there can be many cases of bad/careless driving and some people don't know they are even doing it. there have been cases of extremely clean/fun racing I have had but not often lol.

I definitely would rather 'clean' racing rather than playing silly-buggers, just not at a hardcore Redbull X1 level - know what I mean?
My favourite races are with slower (class C or B in old GT speak) stock vehicles with all driving aids turned off - except maybe ABS.
 
What is SRF?

Also you should know your car/setups behave differently online. It seems your tyres have less grip and the rear end is pretty twitchy/prone to snap oversteer at any point during a corner(god knows why PD do this) and will spit you off backwards before you know it`s happening.
