I'm sorry?
I am planning a budget PC for my brother where I'm trying to get the most performance out of the least money possible and here is what I have so far.

Gaming case with 4 fans included- £31 http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0071KZNUY/?tag=gtplanetuk-20

1Tb HDD- £55 http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008ZBNURG/?tag=gtplanetuk-20

AMD Athlon x4 631- £58 http://www.kikatek.com/P202651/AD631XWNGXBOX-AMD-Athlon-II-X4-Core-4-631-2-6GHz?source=froogle

Socket FM1 Gigabyte A75-D3H- £60 http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00585CQCM/?tag=gtplanetuk-20

AMD HD 6850- £95 http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/atiradeongraphicscards/amdhd6850series/nov-6850.html

2x2Gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz- £27 http://www.awd-it.co.uk/corsair-ven...b-1600mhz-ddr3-memory-cas-9-dual-channel.html

I already have a 750w modular psu and dvd burner so those are not needed, I would like to know if any improvements could be made.

Thanks in advance

For gaming you would be better off going for something like an Intel Pentium G840. If you don't care that much, then it's fine.

The price seems to be around the same, however the benchmark result for the Athlon seems to be much better so I don't see how it could be better for gaming.
Athlon 631 x4 - http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Athlon+II+X4+631+Quad-Core
Pentium G840 - http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Pentium+G840+@+2.80GHz
It also seems that it overclocks very well http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2198970

My main concern at the moment is whether the RAM will be compatible with the motherboard, is there some way I could check?

That is quite surprising but I think since my brother doesn't play many recent games and is mostly multitasking the 4 cores might be better for him unless the pentium is also better at that.

I'll say the X4 is fine, though ROAD_DOGG has a point in that going with a Pentium will allow you to easilly throw in a Core i3, i5, or i7 down the road, since it's all on the 1155 platform. :)
