I've been looking for a truck for awhile now and the first one I was about to go check out looked like a great deal but the dealer had sold it a couple of days before I went to go see it. The same day I got a tip from a relative of a truck that was near my house on the side of the road with a for sale sign on it. We looked at it and did the carfax and all that good stuff. So today we (my dad and I) met up with the guy and it's got a few cosmetic issues (small dents, scuffs). I asked the guy if there were any mechanical issues with it and he said that first gear has a problem. I test drove it and it doesn't slip but it takes longer than usual for it to get out of 1st and into 2nd. As in, when I took off it went up to 2500rpm before shifting. The guy said he took it to an AAMCO and apparently it probably would be a solenoid or something of the sort, but he did not quote them on a price. My dad is saying to stay away from it and keep searching. But, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it it's got low mileage for a 9 year old truck and only a few cosmetic defects. My question to you guys (finally) is: Do you think it's worth seeing how much it would cost to fix the first gear issue? My brother-in-law also said a friend's dad rebuilds transmissions so that may mean a lower price.

I'm just curious because it seems like such a nice truck to pass up because of a defect that can be fixed, it just costs money. Not knowing how much is the only problem.

usually one tranny problem leads to more. im sure its not an extremely rare truck so you could probably find another low mileage one for a good price. id keep searching 👍
