hello everyone,

some days ago i viewed a new video from gamescom where a car (subaru ?) go to pit and repair all mechanical damage, but not aerodynamics damage !

i'm waiting for forza 4 like everyone in this forum (i think) and "meanwhile" i've passed the past 4 years to play everyday (more or less) forza motorsport 3 and 2, play a part of tournaments, race, events, most of all online with my teammate.

i wish that in forza 4 Turn10 can include the fix of aerodinamyc component because it's absolutely absurd that i can fix a damage dampers, change an entire engine or a gearbox in just a few seconds but i can't change a damage front splitter/bumper, thing that in real race it's done in just a few seconds and less than a minute.

i think that it isn't so hard to implemate that in forza 4 and i don't understand why Turn10 studios (that they are GREAT and i will ever say them thank you for forza motorsport series) don't fix this (i think that can i say it..) bug !

i've also open a thread in forzamotorsport forum, hoping that someone of Turn10 can read my disappoint.

what do you think about it ?

Preaching to the choir Nababbo. I wish they would let us do that as well. Hell, just give us a pit option screen when we pull in letting us choose what we want fixed (see Race Pro 09).

At first I did not like 'non-repairable aero damage' but after some races with friends it really made you want to NOT crash more than ever. I'm fine either way. If they allow aero damage to be fully repaired then the car should remain in the pits to 'fix the aero damage' longer than normal. That's the way I would code it.

right now to avoid at this "problem", i've to play in tourments, endurance and other events online with limited or superficial damage because (most of all in R class) with simulation damage, just a little bit contact brings to have a big damage in aerodinamics without possibility to fix it on the pit stop and i've to lose 2-3 seconds per laps for a 30% of damage on front or rear wings...

While true, damage to wings, canards and splitters shouldn't be easily repaired. If they're allowing us to fix it while pitting, it should take a decent chunk of time to get it fixed - I'm thinking 30 seconds up to a minute, depending on the car.

can leave even the estetic damage, but clearing the % damage to zero!!!! :ouch:

Well, yeah, that's all that's needed, but i still think it should take a realistic amount of time... It wouldn't make sense to get an advantage out of pitting for new aero parts if you've only got 5 to 10 laps left (on a normal course, I'm not talking about, say, the 'ring here )

Agreed. Most race cars have front clips and rear wings at their disposal but street cars are not easily fixed. With that being said, It would be nice to be able to repair those things quickly on race cars during a pit stop but street cars should either take an extensive amount of time or not be able to repair it during a race at all.

I agree with OP.

The thing that is stupid is that in Forza 1/ you can swap a broken engine within seconds and 2/ you cannot ever repair the aero, whereas IRL 1/ swapping an engine takes a few hours at best and 2/ "fixing" aero can be done within minutes, even seconds with some duct tape if damage is still light.

This inconsistency is killing me. And I don't understand the underlying game design decision either. If you want to "permanently penalize" rough driving, simply adjust pit stop repair so that you cannot repair damage up to a certain level, let's say 20% damage in Forza's terms. I would be consistent and fair.

I would like to get down to actually allowing us add/remove the tape over the grill during pits to compensate for more/less downforce/cooling. Same goes for aero, sometime duct tape is used during pits.

in all racing games you can adjust aerodynamic damage!! Forza 3/4 no!! incredible!!
I sincerly doubt that.
Maybe they shouldn't make it so easy to repair the engine. Just a thought.
Exactly. Repairing a damaged engine/gearbox should just result in an inevitable loss in just about everything that's not an endurance race. And even then, it'd be really hard to make the time up again.

During the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, it took teams like VW and BMW huge amounts of time to fix transmission issues - 30 minutes at least.

That's why I think implementing that stuff is really tough, If you're doing it realistically, it's pretty much pointless for 99% of the races to ever occur in FM4. Who's really going to sit there for 30 minutes, watching while the games sorts the issues with your gearbox out?

Same goes for fixing aero damage. On a proper race car, switching the nose might be done in a minute or so, but switching the splitters and canards on a tuned road car would take an easy five to ten minutes, if not more. I really can't think of too many people who wouldn't just quit the race instead.

They could always just have the game skip ahead to when the repairs are finished or if its a short race then its a DNF and the race is over.

This doesn't work in multiplayer, though. And given how small the single player's endurance portion is, it'd be almost a complete waste to be implemented in the first place.

No need to implement it for that stuff at all :p
