I have finally gotten the hang of it and am becoming far more competitive than I ever was with the controller. It is a lofty investment for a video game but I dont see myself playing anything else for quite some time. At first it was difficult to adapt to and spinouts were really hard to correct, but it was instantly more fun and immersive. At this point I drive with all aids off, including ABS. My settings are for no power assist and in simulation. I have moved the wheel and seat around several hundred times to find the perfect spot. I even wore water shoes to get better grip on the pedals...lol. The final tweak was to use the paddle shift and my LEFT foot for braking. I hope this helps anyone contemplating or struggling with a wheel:)

I plan on purchasing the exact same set-up in about 2 weeks with part of my tax refund. How was the set-up? Any advice or tips you would give yourself if you could go back in time before you purchased them?

My main concern is with setting it all up. This will be my first wheel and I have no idea how to get the wheel configured and dialed in properly. I assume it isn't as simple as plugging it in and diving right in. How do you switch between using the gated shifter and the paddles? Last question, what wheel do you pick in the options menu in game? I know there isn't an oprion for the G27 so I was wondering what I'm supposed to do about that. Sorry for all the questions, I'm just very curious since I'll be getting mine VERY soon and I'm really excited for this!

The beauty of it is the G27 is indeed pretty much just plug and play. Switching between paddles and H gate is seamless. Once you press a paddle it will shift to paddles, then if you want to H shift just make your next shift with it and it switches. Its amazing.

Thats pure awesomeness. Thanks for the heads up! Come on tax refund!!! As far as set-up goes, is there any tinkering I need to do with the wheel, or do I just plug it and and start driving? Also, what about the wheel options in the main screen options menu? The G27 isn't listed, but do I even need to worry about that? I'm not really sure what that menu is for, I assume it's for making adjustments to the wheel/pedal set-up?

I've played with a G27 and Hyperdrive car seat since November - it increases the fun factor 10 fold! The G27 is really easy to set up, its just plug and play. But you can do some minor set-up changes in GT5. I put my on simulation (so there is no help in over-steer correction i believe), I have the power-assist steering off and leave the force feedback at 5/10. Works quite well like this.

One thing though, when driving either the Ferrari F10 or the Red Bull X2010, there is HEAPS of feedback! Feels like the motors in the G27 are going to fry!

Have fun when you get your setup mate!

I have a Playseat and love it. The only thing I had to do was slip thin pieces of nylon between the steering wheel tube and the base near the floor. What will happen is that no matter how hard you screw down the knob it will still wiggle a bit. I put two pieces of thin nylon 2 inces long, 1/4 Inch wide 1/16 inch thick. No more wiggle. I also recommend the seat adjustment add on. Makes it real easy to adjust the seat for others.

lol, those pics are not worthy of such a fine forum.

BTW, on the Playseat I put the stability bracket under the pedals and still found it a bit far from my heel to toe to get to the pedals. I made a strip of 3/4" thick cork for the length and width of the footrest which I affixed with the provided velcro. This worked nicely.

Also: to those of you intimidated on assembly. Dont be. It took me about an hour with virtually no tools, other than the provided allen-head wrenches, to put it together and Im no carpenter.
