What the heck were they doing for six damn years?

GT4 was released on December 28th 2004 and they spent the next 6 years making a couple premium cars and then importing the rest from GT4. Then they put the smallest offline career mode i have ever seen in a video game.

They didn't add ANYTHING that GT4 didn't already have, in fact they removed alot.

I really want to know what the hell they were spending all that time on. GT4 was a MASSIVE game and when you started up you thought i'm never going to finish this.

GT5 is so shallow in content it's insulting how long it took them to make it. PD needs to step down and give the Gran Turismo title to another company because they obviously don't have the ability to get stuff done in time.

Hell GT5 was not even complete game when they released it and after 2 years it's STILL NOT.

I am not excited about GT6 like i was about GT5 because this game is horrid outside of it's driving physics. We waited 6 years for this game and after 2 years of DLC's it's still pathetic.

It has become a car collector game because there is nothing else to do. PD walk away from this game before you kill it completely you are not worthy anymore and are holding the series back.

Your points are valid, but this post as a whole seems like a big overreaction to me. Yeah, GT5 is not what it could have been, but is it really a reasonto say they should give up the series? Personally, I think there is no better company to do the GT series than PD. Their passion and and attention to detail is what sets them apart from the competition. One failed (ish) game won't change that.

You know that saying, you can't really judge/criticize until you've been in that person's shoes?

I can say Obama is a Communist, but do I actually see him working from sun up til sun down?

Every developer has its problems with games just because GT5 is a swing and a miss according to you doesnt mean they wont fix it for gt6 im going to give pd a chance with gt6.

You're right...

I'm gonna go play GT4 online and whoop my friends. I'll also participate in GT4's Academy, and when I'm done, I can get some easy money Remote Racing my GT4 while I'm at work.

Why didn't I think of this earlier?

They actually made a pretty decent amount of cars in the 4 years that we know they were plugging away at it (they weren't working on GT5 as we know it until GT:HD was cancelled, though all of the stuff made for that game was transferred over). Not as much as the competition, and not exactly the best selection, but there are reasons for that that have been established countless times.

They didn't add ANYTHING that GT4 didn't already have, in fact they removed alot.
The former is false, the latter is true. There are many things in GT5 that aren't in GT4 (mostly annoying UI regressions). There are also many things in GT4 that aren't in GT5. Overall, though, GT5 is pretty far ahead in terms of features even if it is lacking badly in structure and design.

Dude. It's been one game. You know how many terrible Need For Speed games there have been since that series started, and how many times it has bounced back?

Hell GT5 was not even complete game when they released it and after 2 years it's STILL NOT.
No it's not. But that's not particularly related to PD's ability to carry the franchise from here on out. Hopefully Kaz and PD have learned something from this, and it's a bit early to write of GT6 entirely when we know nothing about it.

Well considering it has taken you 2 years since GT5's release just to come here and complain, I would say 6 years to release 2 games aint that bad going (GT5 & GTPSP).

Common guys, this is getting so boring listen to the same garbage we have heard a thousand times over. You wanna know how difficult being creative is....Try getting creative yourself and try to come up with an original moan for once.

Thread lock anyone?

I feel the same way..Well,not really. But I'll save that for my thread.

Now lock it.

I dont see a reason to lock a thread because someone wants to vent.

Unless of course there is a thread like this.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of threads venting about GT5.

It is not venting. I have every game since GT1 and the people like me who have grown up with the series know that GT5 is a far cry from it's older siblings.

I feel sorry for the young kids who have only played GT5 because they don't understand what this series is actually capable of and it's sad.

The Gran Turismo series is supposed to be the apex game in the racing genre and GT5 is not.

No, what you are doing right now is venting.

Venting is the act of voicing your displeasure at whatever that troubles you to others that are willing to listen.

We don't disrespect your opinion, but we also heard the GT4 comparisons many times before. Hence the indifference some of the older members of this forum to such criticisms.

I agree with you that GT4 was amazing, but it was amazing for its time. GT5 introduced weather, time change, damage (cosmetic), and other stuff I can't really remember at the moment.

Yes, the game is slim on the content, but this was PD's first real "full-fledged" game on the PS3, which has been noted by many other developers before that it was way trickier/harder to program for compared to the PS2.

It's fine that you think it's not the Apex of the series, though of course as you have seen that's not a sentiment that's shared by everybody. For me GT1 was the apex because it flipped console racing games upside down and kicked it in the face.

All I want is PD to hopefully learn from the shortcomings from this game and apply the solution in GT6.

OP, I hope you realize there is a difference between ranting and constructive criticism. I often criticize PD's decisions made for GT5, but I will defend PD against ranting when reasonable.

Absolutely brilliant.

Let's all meet back here in September 2021. By then he'll know if he likes GT6 or not.

I give PD the benefit of doubt. They do things their way, but I mostly enjoy what they do.

Also, with online, there are endless possibilities. I don't really think about the carreer. The AI can never beat some good clean racing with humans.

There may be attention to detail (to a degree, in my opinion), but I don't see much passion in GT5, given how shallow it is. But we'll for sure if PD still has that magic touch when GT6 comes.

Don't forget to race your GT4 Ferrari F1 at GT4 Spa in the GT4 rain, and your GT4 Miura on your GT4 created track at Toscana in the GT4 night. Make sure to have your GT4 damage on too.

I agree with you and i have defended this series ten fold. The problem is now those people who try and rip GT apart now have a bases of argument because the last game put out in the series is not where it once was in prior games.

Gran Turismo was at one time the game noone could argue about being the best racing game and now it is looked down upon by many. GT5 is no longer the measuring stick in the racing genre, it's just not.

Do you realize that in GT1 the very first game they made you could race mod every car? It had endless things to do and online wasn't even thought of yet.

I know it's crazy late to start a thread like this and i believe i've started a similar one before but i just started the game up and was sitting in GT life moving my cursor around trying to find something to do.

Just made me want to start a thread.

Holy crap, Lewis Hamilton took time away from his F1 duties to post in this thread.

Must be taking a break from all of those contract disputes.

Well he better keep it on the down low, or Mclaren will be restricting his bandwidth allotment.

Ron Dennis doesn't like lag in his YouTube browsing.

The game is good for what it is. There's online challenges monthly, GT Academy, online racing, gobs of photomode options, etc. Plus the graphics still look good.

If PD wants to improve the next GT game I only wish for three things: more cars, more challenges and more online gameplay features to increase the replay value.

We don't need anymore Nissan GTRs, I mean really.

Lord have Mercedes, don't take away my internets.

See this is why I like Lewis Hamilton. Even he fears for his internets.

Unlike too cool for school Alonso.

He's just nervous about who his new team mate could be, he heard through the grapevine that Paul Di Resta is a Force India to be reckoned with.

I don't know bro, I think this game is light on the GT-R content.:dopey:

Needs at least 10 more models of each generation.

He should probably invite Resta over to co op Borderlands 2.

One thing this game isn't is Small though.

Okay, chatty times are over.

For any further venting, I suggest aggrieved parties dig up the rather long "Disappointed" thread, to find like minds to converse with.
