Ok Ive got new job I have a tempoary contract with Reuters as part of their IT services department. Thing is im nervous as hell considering im only 19 years old im bloody s**ting my self. Im working in the DTC building (Docklands Technical Center) for gods sake they have a swimming pool here! I dunno how im gonna cope with this. Anyone got any advice??

Well congrats on getting a job where they have a swimming pool:thumbsup:

What's wrong with the job anyway *Possibly the danger of Reuters but not sure*

Congrats on the new job!

The first day jitters, huh?

Well, my advice to you is to have some confidence in yourself. They hired "YOU" didn't they! They think that you have what it takes to do the job for them. You should be proud of yourself!

Your probably thinking to yourself, OMG, what am I going to do, "I'm s**ting my pants", will I do a good job, will I blah, blah, blah.
Don't sweat it!

You should get out there and meet as many people as you can. Be yourself. Be confident. Before you know it, you'll be fitting right in. Don't be overconfident though, people don't like that attitude.

Learn as much as you can as fast as you can! And learn it good. People will notice! You'll soon be making new friends and surpassing those "old timers" that have become complacent in there postitions. And you never know, maybe it wont turn out to be just a "temporary" thing!
You have one good thing on your side right now, and that is your fear! Sounds strange, but, fear is a great motivator! It keeps you on your toes. It makes you want to progress. Use it to your advantage!
Heck, before too long, you'll have a corner office and be entertaining the clients out at the pool!

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Peace,

Boom

LoL thanks its ok though, Ive just been tailing my supervisor around for today and getting my ID card sorted out. Everyone seems nice but there are allot of people, Ive been shaking peoples hands all day :D so its not all that bad as I made it out, I just seem to get these nerves and they wear off very quickly after about 5 seconds. Oh well at lest the download is good 788kbs per sec!

I'll give you a shot mister! :D Get over here!
You need a shot in the *** to get your lap times faster! :D

That was not a shot at you at all Y2TUSCAN! :)

Y2Tuscan,
Consider it "stage fright".
You have the "skills" or they wouldn't have hired you.
Do what you know.
Help them get their S*** in a sock.
As we say on this side of the Pond.

YOU DA MAN.
You have this well in hand. You will be awsome.

It's okay to be nervous. YOu have just made a HUGE life step. The start of a possible career.
I wish I had had my head that well screwed on at 19.

yeah, what he said ;)

Hey, congratulations!
If it make you any less nervous, I used to deal with Reuters a bit. And, I suspect that after a while there, you'll be surprised at how well your skills hold up against most people's.

Well, I'd say that about any IT department (and IT was a HUGE part of what my last employeer did).

So, relax, enjoy the place, be sure of your own skills, and you'll do fine.

If you want to read about about that (or almost any) company's culture/what to expect/anything, check out www.vault.com. They have some good insider guides on most companies. They have message boards, too, but a lot of that stuff tends to be whining, so be careful about putting much stock in that.

Thanks guys, even if I didnt get a permanant postion here it will look good on my CV that I have worked here for 6 months.

The only problem I would have is that the name reuters is said rooters :D :D :D
Although my uncle works for a trucking company called hookers
so if people ask him who he works for he says Hookers which is quite deceiving.

I need a job.
