AI is warped! I’ve been racing sport in the Yas Marina track and I’ve actually won twice! Until for some reason the AI docks me points at the end of the race! Now I’ve been slammed into knocked off the track etc I don’t retaliate I just stay calm run my race, catch them pass them if I can and move on. I’ve gotten only a single .5 time penalty for exceeding track limits that was not my fault but then at the end of the race I’m docked. I can’t figure out how these penalties are assessed. I drive clean but I don’t just pull over and stop to let somebody go by me I hold my line, don’t block and run my race. So why doesn’t Sony Polyphony or whoever put up a frivkin guide as to how these penalties are assessed? Better still how to avoid them. If sport is supposed to be fair then let’s have it be fair. Guys who deliberately slam into the rear of your car because they don’t have the skill to pass you any other way should be kicked. Let those of us who want good close clean racing enjoy ourselves. The penalty system must be improved or at the very least completely explained. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Soooo... points?

I'm assuming you're talking about Daily Race C, which is the one at Yas Marina this week, and there's no points available in it as it's not a GTWS event (they're on a break right now, returning next Wednesday).

The rest of your post suggests it's about penalties - for running off-track, for collisions which affect other drivers, or for pit-lane entry/exit infractions - but they're displayed on your screen when you get them and are served on-track at the yellow-marked penalty zones.

Sudden penalties at the end of the race are due to failing to follow mandatory tyre and pit stop regulations which - yes - are active in Daily Race C this week and they're usually one minute in Daily Races or two minutes in GTWS events.

You're required to use the Racing Medium and the Racing Soft tyres during this week's race, and failing to do so will earn you a one-minute penalty added on to your final race time. We write a guide to the Daily Races every Monday so that GTPlanet members (and non-member readers) don't fall foul of it...

You’ll need to use a full set of each during the race, with free choice over when you do, or you’ll find a one-minute penalty attached to your final race time.

Curiously though, your thread title says "Not a tyre issue", even though it looks very much like one.

As for driving penalties, they're not really that hard to understand even if it is luck of the draw sometimes. In essence, if you cut a corner or otherwise leave the track and gain a time advantage through any micro-sector (when the time gap updates), penalty. If you're the last car to contact another car before it goes off the track or collides with a solid object even if you were punted into them, penalty.

But again, these are during the race and are usually between 0.5s and 5.0s depending on how nasty the penalty system is set for the race. Those that appear after the race and are a minute in size are for failing to follow tyre/pit rules.

It would be great if you could share at least some images of what you're seeing to allow for a better assessment of this. Your console records everything it sees, and you can use the Create (PS4) or Share (PS5) button on your controller to take screenshots or record video.

Thanks so much for the reply! I did figure out that you were right on part of the problem. It was a tyre issue as I was trying to only run one set. I realized this after taking a closer look at the pre race mandatory requirements. So ok fixed that. Still getting dinged at the end. I drove a race yesterday where I got one exceeding track limits penalty .5 sec not a big deal. Some of the drivers are pretty aggressive and knock you around but I hold my line and race my race. Again dinged at the end. 3 places taken for me. Is there absolutely NO contact allowed? That seems pretty impossible especially if you have to race up thru the field. Does the AI make a distinction as to who initiates contact? Doesn’t seem like it. I love a good race but am I expected to pull over and let someone by just to avoid a penalty? That doesn’t seem fair either. What would truly be helpful is that if at the end of the race you got a summary of your after race penalties, what you did wrong and what it cost you. That way you would know what you did and could at least adjust somewhat to avoid the penalties. It seems strange that this is the first time I’ve come across this in any of the sport races I’ve been in. Ive been racing GT7 for a few years now, I’ve NEVER been penalized AFTER the race so when it happened it really surprised me. Was there a change in the last update? I’m not a whiner I understand you’re going to always have jerks that simply want to try to wreck you that’s the nature of this type of competition. it sure seems like there was a change in the way penalties are assessed before the update and now after the update. Do I get dinged when someone rams me in the rear? Not a brake check but intentionally hitting you from behind? Does the AI know the difference? I’m just trying to understand what I’m doing wrong so I can fix it. Thank you so much for any help. I can save a replay the next time this happens. Not sure how I would post it to the message board though. Thanks again.

Finally won I had to adjust my driving to deal with how strict they’ve made the track limitation. Friend of mine down under helped me out as well to get the most out of my driving style so thanks to PirateAnt! Side note I guess when the yas marina track was added it had no track limitations at all and people were cutting corners and going way off the track to pass etc so Gran Turismo said ok…. And they put extremely strict track limitations on. Once you know what the limitations are you can adjust your racing style to not get penalties. Thanks for all the info on the thread it is greatly appreciated.
