Tank car + Tsukuba pit stop = fun for the AI all day. Literally.
Before I went to work today I started the nine hours of Tsukuba endurance to gain some experience on my A-spec. Since I'm just in it for the experience and wouldn't be driving anyway, I decided to chose a fun car for my racing driver avatar (imagine spending nine hours in a boring car just sitting there - I couldn't be that cruel to my poor avatar...) so I chose the Tank Car.
Now, when I came home about fifteen minutes ago and there where about five minutes left of the endurance, I decided to drive a few laps, but the Tank Car, as you may know, can really wear out a set of tires fast, especially if you do a couple of donuts... Anyway, so I decided to go for a pitstop as well, just to let the AI see some of the surroundings, and welll... bad idea.
The Tank Car, it turns out, is too big for the pit. The entering of the pit is fine, as well as the stop itself. But the actual exit is a disaster. My Tank Car's front right tyre got stuck against the pit wall, resulting in the car spinning around 90 degrees, facing the pit wall. The peculiar phenomenon here is that the Tank Car is pretty much exactly as long as the pit lane is wide, so there's not much room for turning around again and exiting.
The result of this is a weird crab walk, sideways crawling out of the pit by applying full throttle forward -> banging into wall -> applying full throttle reverse -> banging into wall -> turning the wheel slightly -> repeat.
But I guess my avatar could benefit from this, cause I imagine it's a good parallell parking practice.
Slowly, but surely, the AI actually made its way out of the pit through this parallell parking crab walk technique, but the entire pit stop took 15 minutes...
Anyone else have any fun AI/B-spec Bob anecdotes they want to share?
