I'm not sure if anybody else noticed this, but I've definitely seen it more and more as I race. If you tap your brakes just to show the lights to the cars behind you about a second or two before you actually enter your braking pattern, the AI cars are much less likely to hit you. They'll start braking to avoid you and even go around you in some instances. Also, if you approach a car from it's left-rear, depending on the car, it'll move out of the way as long as you aren't approaching at a speed that would require hazardous direction changes from the car in front of you. The AI also seems to favor passing on the left, when you pass on the right it leads to a more likely chance of an accident (surprise surprise).

I just thought I'd share something so subtle that most haven't noticed it. I see a lot of comments about the AI sucking and being a horrible driver. The AI might actually work on the same point system that the b-spec driver does, improving with skill and track awareness the more you compete and "train" them.

No the Events are getting harder when you go from beginner too proffesional to extreme ect.

Well, sometimes the AI does something good indeed. Sometimes when I try to pass them before a corner, they drive a defending line, instead of staying on their line. They actually try to prevent me from overtaking them.

And what you've seen, I have seen that too, but the times I see the good things, is not much enough. Mostly the AI sucks, only in maybe 5-10% of all cases the AI handles the way you described. So, in general, the AI sucks, but it has some good things. Let's hope PD will keep the positive things about the AI in the game, and remove the bad things. But I wonder if that will ever happen...

I would've agreed that it seems the AI rarely drives well around me, until I started paying attention to my driving. I've usually contributed in some way to any accidents that were caused, upon review of the replay. Perhaps that's why it's taken this long for me to notice it, as my skill improves, so does the AI driver's. Somebody had mentioned in another thread that the b-spec skill points don't only apply to the b-spec AI, and it makes perfect sense for the rest of the field's skill to rely upon a learning model based on actual driving. All I know is, the AI drivers that race against me hardly touch me anymore, and I hardly ever come into contact with them as well. It's hard to back off when a late-braking maneuver has failed, but if you work to prevent accidents, so will they. The direction pad on the DFP is perfect, and with practice I'm able to instantly view a near 360 degree sphere around my car while on the track. It takes practice to look to the left at 240kph and not veer the car to the left, but that's what being a driver is all about.
