The AI pit strategy on the 5-lappers ANNOYS THE HELL OUT OF ME. Nothing I hate more than to run a nice competitve race, only to have the competition throw it away on the next-to-last lap by pitting. In the three Amateur MR races I had the pole by a very narrow margin, or in fact started 2nd or 3rd in the grid. Yet I won all 3 races by 5-20 seconds because the close competition all pitted after lap 4, leaving the back markers to follow me around the track at a distance.

Where's the fun in that? If they had pitted on lap 3 there is a reasonable chance they could have caught up again, since my medium slicks are getting yellow by the time the final lap rolls around, while they'd be on fresher, stickier tires. That would make for some great last-stretch action.

Instead, the last lap becomes just another bus ride, pretty much.

Neon,

You have got to be the most reasonable person i have ever encountered. You want to win but only by being scrupulously fair.

The Neon_Duke becomes the Neon_Paladin!

Put super soft tyres on take the traction control off and spin the wheels all the way to the first corner. That way, you too will have to pit for tyres.

I must play you at poker!

But in all seriousness, that race like a great many other 'levels' in many other games is a hint.

What that race is teaching you (the gamer) is that there are other ways to win a race (level) other than picking the fastest car. The game / programmer is showing you that you can set your car up to win in a different way. It's showing you that by running softer tyres you can build up a sufficient lead that will allow you to fit in an extra pit stop and then leave the pit in a position to battle back through the pack to win.

In one race in one series in Pro' there was a race i just could not gold in. Until i realised something i knew all along, and that was that there is more than one way to skin the proverbial cat.

The problem is that you know far more about racing and car setup than a lot of us, me included! So you've been using your knowledge as a car driver / racer to beat the game, but the game designer has to show those of us (me for example) that don't know how to beat the game the tactics that will be required in later levels/races.

Well. that's my theory anyway.......

Could be wrong....

I'll shut up now.....

An' drink me beer.....

and shut up.....

Slurp.

Ahhhh, beer good, beer cold......

Awwww, shucks! I just figure that the races are there to be raced. I can practice my lap times all I want in Free Run! I like the races to be close enough to bring out the adrenaline. If I'm not saying "You b*st*rd! You b*st*rd!" under my breath on the final lap, it's not as much fun as it could be...
I hadn't thought of it your way, but it's an excellent point. Cheers for showing me. By the way, what are you drinking? I'm a Bass fan myself; can't quite bring myself to go darker than that.

I actually ran the Amature FR on normal road tyres. They were red by lap 4, and it was a close race, but I won by a second.

This, again, is an issue that I have with PD. Something is amiss with the AI and it's reasoning. I ran a stock Altezza (save tires) against a group of cars that were very similarly powered, and set-up. Yet I had no proble outrunning the competition. Some of that was due to my driving skills.

However I just tried running a Lap time comparison on another part of this forum, and I'm six seconds off the best time. I'm looking to improve my times, and have a few thoughts on how to do it, but this is racing against real people.

I too, have muttered a few impolite descriptions of the AI under my breath.

Does it really teach us more about the game, and the higher levels? I made the mistake of running the Gt All Stars - amateur with a C5R on medium tires. I constantly had to nurse them through 2-3 laps. Apricot hill, I had to pit at the end of the second lap, so that I had time to catch up to the AI...

I know next to nothing about cars, but yet I can still pick out certain ways to improve my racing. Seriously if it goes beyond changing the oil or a carwash, it's off to the mechanic I go.

Slip2rock: What is one key thing you can tell me as I start the professional level?

The previous two times I've run through Pro, I utilized an F1 on more than a few occasions. This time, I'm at 77+% and haven't won an F1 yet. It looks like the first one I'll win is at the end of the endurance level...Just in time to start the F1 series.

Neon's issue ranks near my top ten list of things I would like PD to fix on GT4. Sincs leaving the paintball scene, I found that a close race in GT3 is the best Adrenaline rush I can find.

I don't think this contributed much, but I had to say it.

BTW: I prefer something a bit lighter in the beer department.
Corona w/ a side of Cuervo 1800.

A quick fix is to unnecessarily pit when the last AI car does. This'll keep it even with regard to the pit time and make the race all about who did the best on the track, not while tire shopping.

You may feel bad pitting with green or yellow tires, but it'll keep it even :D
