AI pitting in rain

I was playing Formula GT champ, when it came to Monza, there was rain.
Everything was OK but when on next lap I saw giant split: its everybody was going to the pit.

WTF? Assuming they want to take rain tyres, why they didn't it right before the start?

I should watch the replay, but I didn't.

upd. My friend was playing same event, he have rain only on Suzuka, and only on Suzuka AI pitted in, when on sunny Monza not.
 
I actually did this GP stuff yesterday and on Monza I had Heavy rain when the race started so started on wets as did the AI. However few laps in the AI pitted and I was thinking why the f are they pitting.
Turned out that the raceline was as good as dry and they pitted for slicks and gained on me massivly. It was visiable in the way that there was no spray behind the car anymore and I opted for a pit as well to put on slicks and sorted again :)
