Recently I've come across people in lobbies online that will insist on using driving aids other than ABS such as the driving line, TCS, SRF or ASM when racing against those who choose to use nothing other than ABS. In my opinion, nothing other than ABS should be permitted when racing* online. More often than not I will see others with same idea as me. Opinions?

In my opinion

^^^ This.

You are not the only type of GT5 player on the planet ;) There's a clear community of GT5'ers who just play purely to have fun, and may not be great drivers or racers.

It can be annoying for us experienced folk sometimes.

Was lobby hunting, looking for some close racing, found some lads with stong boost and slipstream on, using German touring cars with Racing Softs. They were bumping eachother around the whole race, crashing off then boosting back to me.

There's some amazing racing on GT5's open lobbies, you just have to find it.

Room owner chooses, simple as that.
If you don't like people using aids, find a room that shares your view point or make your own 👍

Personally in my room I disable all aids bar ABS and TC for those who aren't great at throttle control.

Online is for everyone, if someone wants to use SRF or any other aids they can, I just won't join them. What the game does need is more filters to make sure we don't see the rooms we don't want but no, they certainly should not be forcing everyone to do the same.

Hahaha I know...It's not like I have a real problem with people who use it, it's just these particular people I came against were particularly lame/hostile and getting all crazy over the mic. Going on crazy rants about being amazing drivers because of their vast DS3 skillz and so on. Basically getting this game confused with real driving. Quite comical actually...I was just wondering if there were others who had the same strange experience online.

I am the greatest omelette maker in the world!! I make omelettes for breakfast at least one day every weekend. Something new and different every time. Whenever I make one for my Dad, he puts ketchup on it!!!!:yuck: Ketchup is the SRF of omelettes. But I still make the omelettes for him, even though he ruins them with ketchup!!!!

Moral of the story: Just because someone likes ketchup on their omelette, doesn't mean you have to like it. Oh, and that aids on GT5 are a personal thing, and just go race where they use the aids you like to use.

And note, when you do a lobby search, tick off the little box that means the lobbies you are sorting through are not using SRF.

Join the club. I can keep up with most 'wheel' drivers on my DS3, and I don't use ANY aids, (inc ABS). But I don't go boasting and carrying on about it. I play Gran Turismo to relax, and play.

Why? If you can manage a car with no aids you WILL be faster than someone who uses aids. It's a natural progression. When you first start off the game you use aids to get used to the physics and as you learn to control the car you turn them off if you wish.
Aids do not make a driver faster than someone who can control a car without them.
Other than SRF which is a completely different story I think of it as personal preference.

It's almost certainly not the same person, but this reminds me of someone I met. I'm pretty sure he said he used a DS3.

On topic, I agree with Urie, find or create a room that's more to your liking. 👍

I have to admit I use driving line after a year of not playing. It just helps me get a feel for the racing line and breaking points. It probably more efficient and faster for the people who don't use the line as you can brake later than what it tells you.

Lol. That wasn't boasting.

I wasn't bashing aids, I was asking for opinions on whether or not using driving aids in an online race should be thought of the same way as performance points or hp and weight. (Fairness)

Exactly.

I actually agree with this. They need to add a filter for each driving aid on the lobby select screen, with the options any, allowed, and not allowed. Oh, and just curious, why do people not allow the driving line? It's not like it has any active effect the car.

ABS is the greatest aid of all in my opinion. A driver might gain a second or so from SRF if he knows how to capitalize on it, but taking off ABS makes most Car/PP/Tire combinations undrivable for a great many people and if they do happen to get in a clean lap, most of them will be many seconds off their ABSon pace. All you are really saying is that you have your favourite driving aid which is ABS and don't think others should use anything other than your favourite aid.

I'm with other people who think we should have more filter options, so we can find rooms that are more to our own tastes when racing online. If the room has SRF on, I will turn it on as it is the only aid that will allow you to drive faster and I'm not good enough to beat people without it switched on.

It would be cool if one day we could get force feed back pedals as it would make braking so much "easier" to judge at times.

With the setup I have with my wheel buttons on my G27, I have it so I can adjust the driving aids and bias while driving. I like to turn the TC on for starts and then will set it to 0 once I am racing.

How a room is setup or restricted doesn't bother me anymore. I spent a while dabbling with all three physics types (SRF on + ABS, SRF off + ABS, SRF off + ABS off) to become used to all of their different characteristics.

So now when I enter a room, I just go with whatever the host has set up, my main priority online is just to find fun, clean, hard racing, whatever the setup. It's having a good time that counts.

Two [valid] reasons come to mind immediately:

1: They are afraid(rightly or wrongly) of having people on the track following the racing line like a zombie, blissfully unaware of where other people are on the track or that the places where the driving line is bad might cause them to collide with those other drivers.

2: They figure(rightly or wrongly) that anyone who doesn't feel confident enough on any given track to drive around it without a line telling them where to go and when to brake probably isn't a competent enough driver to be allowed on track with them, sort of like requiring a license to enter the race.

In both cases, it's not so much about the effect the aid has, but rather filtering out drivers that they feel(rightly or wrongly) might not be a good combination with the drivers that they would like to race with.

I've found that 90%+ of non-SRF rooms disallow all aids except ABS for whatever reason. Occasionally one will allow the driving line or TC. It's not really necessary of course except for reasons like the examples I gave, since the concensus seems to be that all of the other aids actually slow you down other than perhaps TC on extremely high powered racecars. I very rarely enter SRF-allowed rooms so I don't know how common banning the other aids in those rooms is. Seems rather silly to do so if you're allowing SRF, but to each their own I suppose.

Whatever room I enter, I drive the same way I always do, with none turned on. It doesn't really bother me too much when other people have things on since I don't generally get too worked up about my finishing position. But that's obviously not possible for people accustomed to using aids that are often banned.

It would be great if there was a real world option, so if your car does have ABS and TC in real life then you're able to use them and obviously if yours does not, then you don't get the options. I think it would make an interesting edge to what car you choose to drive in each race.

Well wouldn't you agree that ABS only is a pretty common set amongst others? Not to mention when ever you purchase a car that and TCS are the only aids turned on. You can use no ABS of you configure your brake balance. ;)

I don't see a problem using ABS or other driving aids.
In fact it gives me the edge at beating them. (Traction control slows the car down a lot IMO)
I see many with traction control on 5, that's fine, they bought the game just like everyone of us and can do whatever they want.
ABS is the only aid I use, not on all cars, just the cars that spin out no matter how well I tune it.
I have that right IMO, does it slow me down, maybe but if I'm spinning out than its a plus for me to use it.

GT5 is a great game, let's have some fun.

It's common only because it's the only aid that makes your car faster with it on, than off. If TCS or other aids made your car faster, I'm sure many players would use that too.

Even ignoring SRF, ABS isn't the only thing that makes cars faster. Try looking near the top of TT leaderboards sometime, I doubt the few using it have Active Steering on because they can't drive.

Why not host your own room? ;)
Or if you can't due to network issues or maybe you just can't be bothered next time you find a decent lobby with a good host, add him! Obviously send a message within the F/R saying you're adding him because he's a good host, hard to find good hosts, etc etc.
