AIM and MSN over Verizon - Just text messages or are they data too?

I am looking at getting the Samsung u740, which has AIM and MSN on it from what I have found out. I'm planning on doing alot of texting, etc with the keyboard. The question is this - do messages sent over AIM and MSN from the phone count only as a text message, or are they also considered data by Verizon? I've not been able to get a straight answer on it yet... and the last thing I need is to think I have unlimited AIM and MSN because of an unlimited texting plan, when I am also getting billed for data with no data plan.

So, please help me!
