Ok, so my AIM program has this problem, and its getting on my nerves:

Whenever I IM someone, anyone, there is a good 10 second lockup of the program where I cant do a thing. This happens every time I IM someone, and the only workaround right now is for me to Directly Connect to a person, which fixes it only for that person.

Ive scanned my comp for Viruses, Spyware, and I've uninstalled anything that I dont need. Nothing helped. I know its not my Router, as another comp in the house is connected the same way, and it doesnt have this problem at all.

Ive searched the internet and found no solution, and nobody I know has this problem at all.
Anyone know what Im talking about?

time to reformat... :D j/k I have the same problem sometimes I think it's either aim or I probably do need reformating.

Have you tried uninstalling AIM, deleting the AIM directory, and deleting all AIM related registry entries?

I would guess it might be a less ram user, the interface sure doesn't look as graphical as MSN 6.1/2 whichever the current version is.

Edit: I just downloaded this, it totally removed the AIM ads, no gray spot no nothing. 👍

Ive done the complete re-install (reg files, directory, etc) of AIM a few times, no luck.

sUn,

I tried that, but it winzip gives me this:

Can't create output file: c:program files\AIM\AIMres.dll

I would reformat, but

a) I have no way to backup my files (CDRW drive is poo, will not open)

b) I would want to Defrag before I reformat, but the Windows defrag program is crap and stops at 32% or something similar.

I want a new rig, but I gots to buy another car first. I want a Golf GTi...

It worked fine for me. I used this on the latest version of AIM. I don't know the specific number but it's can be found on AIM.com.

Just do a back-up on 1/2 floppy disks.

you could get another HD{maybe a internal HD or a External USB drive},then put all the data you need onto the new drive and then format the primary HD.

i got an 80gig SE {has a 8mb Cache} Western Digital HD for about $60 bucks after the rebates from officemax.pulled all my games and music on the 40gig and put them onto a 40gig Partition on the new HD.the other 40gig is for the 1gig+ pics i have and in case i get a new DVD,i make a copy of it just for a backup.

Floppy disks are the most cost effective solution, under $10 you can get more get around 10 disks. Where as a external hard drive would cost you upwards of about $50-$300, depending on storing capacity.

You just suggested backing up the data you want to save before a format on floppy disks?

You do know that would take about 10,000 floppys, right?

The most cost efficient thing to do for a format on his part would be buying a new CDRW drive and backing up to a couple CDs, then formatting. CDRW drives can be had for $30 these days. 👍

Yeah, tuesday ( I think) I am going to pick up either a USB Hard drive (80 gig should hold all my crap, considering I am using a 30gb drive now :) ), and/or a USB DVD/RW drive.

Then Ill reformat and all (yes, ALL) of my problems will be cured.

Thanks people.
