I have not seen this idea on the forms yet, or in ANY racing game.

It would add a lot of realism to the game, let me know your thoughts before this thread will likely be closed.

They should also add steering wheel locks when your car is turned off, and you would struggle for a bit, but if you get a sequence of buttons down correctly the character figures out how to unlock it. This would be as real as it gets for some people.

To add to the realism subject, your character should be able to get mild/severe concussions depending on the type of accident it is. If the concussion is so severe they should be hauled away in an ambulance. Upon arriving at the hospital they should give you a diagnosis of the problem. If its not so bad, simple pain killers should work, if its really bad then they should tell you that you'll never race again.. Let alone walk. Fade out to black screen, and "game over" appears.. Thus forcing you to start over from scratch as a different character.

What's the point of airbags?

I think he meant as in suspension. In that case, Midnight club has been doing it for ages.

Hei
I think he meant as in suspension.

Only time will tell.

In either case I don't think either of the two are needed IMO.

EDIT: he brought up realism though, so I'm leaning towards safety airbags.

Airbags would be incredibly awesome. Pointless and distracting, maybe, but awesome.

Yet another idea that would supposedly add to the "realism" but no other reason for adding it. As the sarcastic reply abobe shows not everything should be added just because it's realistic, there needs to be other reasons.

No, there isn't airbags in any sanctioned racing series. Even the car interiors with leather passenger seats serve no purpose except being viewed in the dealership. A waste of time.

Two reasons:

1. Realism
2. Originality, it has not been do before in a racing game. Hell, it could even be a signature thing for GT6 (if they decide to implement the idea). You probably think I'm a complete pilic for saying that, but, you never know.

Also, once the airbags deploy your insurance company is going to have to figure out if its a total loss or not, which it most likely will be because well.. Your on a race track.. And it was your own fault.. Thus giving you no means to get it fixed. They will take the car and you will be left with nothing

It hasn't been done because it would e a complete waste of time to model in an airbag. Like said, just because its "realistic" does not mean it would fit In a game.

Airbag suspension would actually be pretty cool. I propose we hijack the thread and talk about that instead.

Don't know much about that.

I do know however, a lot of "stance" lovers would be happy.

So the only other reason you can think of is that it'd be unique? How about what it would actually add to gameplay? Nothing.

Your car slams itself when parked. Genius!

Well yeah, you're right about one thing....

I was talking about this with a friend the other day. It brings a new meaning to "GTLife"....

Hei
I said that  So does MC3.

Tree'd! Just saw that...

Great idea. However, PD will have to implement some type of insurance system. That should add another layer of realism.

There's probably a reason why...

I agree with you Simon, I don't see any point to playing a driving game with the airbags going off. They would just ruin the driving aspect of the game imo.

I did like Toronado's idea of airbag suspension being in GT6.
Also, isn't there a thread made already to talk about these kind of things?

No need for air bags. You have to have five point harness and roll cage for racing. Air bags are not as safe as that. And they rip them out of a car anyway

And from real life experience crashes in both scenarios. I would choose five point harness over a air bag any day.

I can imagine it during the license tests, which in my opinion would be a pretty neat feature. Other than that, it is pretty pointless.

Airbags in a license test wut? When was the last time you had to crash to get certified?
